Dev softened a little at Sato's obvious distress, "I'm sorry to upset you," Dev said gently. "But you have to understand - I have no way of knowing anything that you're telling me is true." And every reason to think it's not true. It didn't make any sense. How could a woman who had tracked her down - the creepiness factor of that was just beginning to set in, and oh, it was off the charts - not know that her 'godson' had 'arrived.'
She was far more inclined to believe Alex's story - as unlikely as it was - than this perfectly reasonable if slightly stretched explanation. Nothing this Hannah Sato was saying explained the fact that Alex said he had been born.
"How should you have known that he was in the city? Did his father," Dev hesitated over that word for a moment, "contact you?" Does Alex even have a father?
But that was stupid, everyone had parents. Except for, you know, College. And Raum. And Remy... And Alex had said he had a mother...
"I want to help him," Dev reiterated. "But unless you give me some proof that's what you want to do as well..." she lifted her chins slightly in a pose Raum likely would have found 'cute' in that infuriating way of not taking her seriously when she meant something from the bottom of her soul, "then I'm not going to tell you anything about him."
