Well, he certainly didn't intend to bring the man out in pieces - and being a god of death meant that he could control a lot of things where it came to the subject.
They finally made their way into the ICU, where Nergal spotted his other partner-in-crime chatting up a cute nurse next to a cart of biohazard materials. In this case, "biohazard materials" meant urine and bowel specimins on one level and blood on the other. He hadn't told the other man what to do, just that he needed a bit of chaos, and he could see clearly what was going to happen. Nergal lingered near the nurses' station, flipping through some random chart, the old man's room in sight and a wheelchair outside of it like he'd told him partner to do.
Then, with no more than a nod, it started.
The man backed up to excuse himself, knocking over the cart and sending urine, feces and blood toppling and spilling all over the floor. Both nurses rose at once as the younger nurse started screaming about it getting on her shoes. It was the perfect distraction. Nergal rushed forward, wheeling the wheelchair into the old man's room and parking it next to the bed as he pulled out the syringe and stuck the end into the valve on the man's IV.
He turned to Sato, "Give me a hand getting him out of this bed," he said, hoping that the "fast acting" part of the sedative was accurate. They needed it to be now.
