Heads craned and several people rose out of their seats to see what had happened. Iris herself hadn’t seen anything, just the result, but she was fairly confident that still she knew what had happened. Students didn’t normally get flung from their seats during her lectures.
Of course, she couldn’t just stand there. She had to handle this. She should have known her husband would be impossible to ignore, but she’d had some small hope that he would have been content just to watch. Now she was going to have to say something.
The boy had managed to get to his feet, and was casting bewildered looks at his chair, his fallen phone, and the students that had been sitting around him, including Zephyrus. Iris fought to keep her expression neutral. “Mr. Lang? Are you alright?” She took a few steps toward the back of the room.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. I don’t….uhhh, I’m okay.” The boy picked up his phone and slid into his seat. “Sorry. I’m fine.” Iris took a few more steps and stopped short of the boy’s desk by only a couple of feet.
“If you’re sure you’re alright.” She should have asked more questions, but she didn’t want the answers to lead where she knew they would. Instead, Iris settled for a quick but stern look at the blue eyes she was trying hard not to smile at and turned back to the front of the room. She really couldn’t have her students interfered with.
