Well, that was quite unexpected. Envy's eyebrows shot up in surprise, his gaze raking over Pride with no lack of suspicion. Trust was such a fleeting thing between them. Gluttony and Sloth trusted their siblings without a second thought. Envy... well, there were days Envy barely trusted himself. To take the eldest Sin at face value was asking much.
"You shock me, Pride." The smile which tugged at the corners of his mouth was a bitter one. Not sunny and surface sincere like he saved for the mortals, but as close to real as he ever got. It was a nasty thing, appealing only to creatures of his ilk.
"That almost sounds like brotherly concern. Or perhaps you're just speaking for yourself and your own experiences?" Envy spent a moment considering what had been said. He and Pride were some of the family's lone wolves, used to spending long stretches of time separate from their siblings. Recalling all the occasions they had interacted over long centuries, he tried to remember a time when he had heard so much from his brother in one sitting. Certainly not when they'd both been sober, as now. Possibly not ever.
When he looked back up from the blank and cheerful faces sitting atop his desk, Envy appeared calm. Thoughtful. Almost inoffensive. "Pride. You are what you are and I am what I am. So tell me... Is this a euphemism for your own situation as our newly appointed watchdog? Should I be charging you for a subtle unloading of your troubles, or is there something interesting that you're just not telling me?"
