Who: Jesse James, Hannah Sato, and Mary James (NPC)
What: Post Jesse's talk with Sato, she'd like to have a talk with Mary.
When: Tuesday after school
Where: Sato's residence
Warnings: TBD?
She was getting to that age where holding hands with her father was no longer considered cool anymore, Jesse noticed as he walked a few paces behind Mary. Together, almost, they cruised through the city streets towards Hannah Sato's suite. He had her High School Musical backpack tossed over his shoulder as she had insisted on carting her heavier fencing bag on her back, seemingly not caring about Jesse's dignity over the fact that he was carrying a piece of Disney merchandising with Zac Efron's face all over it. Mary looked over her shoulder every once and awhile to check to make sure she was still going in the correct direction (she'd never been to the place after all), but otherwise she appeared to be reveling in asserting her independence.
It was something Jesse had noticed over the past few weeks. As Laura's stomach became bigger and bigger, Mary had suddenly begun to realize that she was once again to be the oldest sibling to two new children. Proclamations of that fact had become commonplace. "We're going to watch what I want to watch because I'm the oldest, Franklin," or, "I don't have to go to bed now because I'm almost eleven"; phrases of the like seemed to have become Mary's new dogma in life. Jesse wanted to tell her that she didn't get to grow up that fast, but in this day and age you were supposed to encourage independence in you daughters.
Jesse had no idea why that was such a thing.
"You need some help?" Finally, he added silently. Catching up to Mary, he approached her as she was struggling to open the door to the Ritz-Carleton. He reached her before the bellhop could and that was fine. Jesse pushed the door open for Mary and then only rolled his eyes as she strode through with too much confidence for a little girl. "Y'know, you didn't have to bring all that stuff. I reckon she just wants to talk to you about what your lessons'll be like."
"But if she wants to see me fence then I might need my stuff, dad," Mary said very matter-of-factly. "Then she'll think I'm unprepared and she didn't like it when people were unprepared in class. And stop trying to carry it! I can carry it!"
So Jesse was resigned to holding Zac Efron over his shoulder while Mary very determinedly carried her equipment to Sato's door. He was trying not to feel too apprehensive about this talk Sato was going to have with his daughter, but that was difficult. This was his baby girl (though, he wasn't allowed to call Mary that anymore, according to her) and she was going to have a talk with an immortal about fencing.
He scowled slightly, reaching out to put his hand on her shoulder as they waited for Sato to answer. At least she didn't shrug that off.
