He had probably mentally said 'God' about a hundred times now - 'Oh God', 'Oh my God', 'Oh man, God...' and all its variations were echoing loudly in his head. This was such a bad idea. If she was in trouble he was more than happy to step in and help her; after all she was a civilian and it was his duty to protect her - but a carnival?
What was he supposed to do here? Have fun?
And what compelled him to come here anyway? It might have been true that he had nothing else to do in the weekend but - God help him - it had been nothing short of embarrassing after that dinner night and who knew why she wanted to see him again.
It wasn't like he could turn around now. He said he would come, since she insisted, and it wasn't right to just leave a lady waiting for him when he wasn't going to show up.
Oh God...
He was running just a little bit late. Maybe he should have rehearsed something in the bathroom. In front of the mirror. About two hundred times to make sure that he looked... natural.
But he was here now and she was standing right there and there wasn't really any option to do anything else except... walk up to her and... say hi.
