A couple kids runnin' loose and wild... Who: Matt de Lacy (Ose) & Allegra Lenkeit (+Elpis) Where: Zion When: Morning What: Starting a "friendship" under "heartfelt" conditions. Why: One tequila, two tequila, three tequila...floor.
Virginia Woolfe claimed creativity needed a room of one's own. For Allegra bars qualified.
Slim-hipped in a pair of Levi's and a tee with both sleeves unceremoniously ripped off, Allegra looked glaringly out of place in Zion's lux, cool interior. Luckily, it was off-hours and the place was a tomb. Lucifer's "pet penguin" was savoring every moment out of uniform.
Zion's stellar sound system had been gleefully hijacked right off the bat.
I ain't here to do anything half-way Don't give a damn what anyone might say I just wanna free fall for a while
An alchemical array of liquors, myriad glassware, confectionery tid bits, juices, garnishes, spices and syrup, and comically shaped ice had taken over the nearest available bar space. Presiding over the confusing spectrum was a blond hurricane with the hands of a magician and the whimsy of Dr. Frankenstein. A small sketchbook was open at her elbow, the miraculously not damp pages overrun with rum stains and all but unintelligible loops of script. Allegra's habit of writing with her left hand (when the right one was busy) didn't do much for the beauty of the text.
"Ok, so citrus and Blue Pucker and, shit what was--oh, pineapple. Right. 'Kay, then Chambord and...hm." She dipped her right pinky into a spice tin. Licked. Considered. "Sugared lemon."
Pain punched her lungs. Too surprised to do more than suck air through her teeth, Allegra doubled over. An automatic iron grip on the bar's edge kept her from collapsing totally.
Fuck, but she forgot sometimes how much it actually hurt to be conscious through the mess. Unlike the major episodes, her clockwork's heart "little earthquakes" offered no promise of oblivion.
*Legra! Legra, what's wro--are you all right?*
Shaking her head brought up a wave of nausea. "Shh, it's okay, Eli. It's okay, it's just a small one. Stay in."
*But-but I can--*
"Stay in." No time to soften the order. But she did not want the kid surfacing on Zion's premises. Whatever her current power level Elpis' manifestations left a definite print on the psychic landscape. Allegra didn't yet have enough experience with the Christian stock of supernaturals to know how they'd react to the print, but neither was she eager to find out. A paycheck, no matter how chunky, wasn't enough to buy her trust completely.
Merciless, she pushed down Elpis' protests just as the second wave hit. This time willpower wasn't enough; her fingers unclenched, useless, and Allegra hit the floor. One elbow took the fall badly; she felt the bruising shock run up her nerve. The hurt was laughably small in comparison to the rest of the show in progress.
Though laughter was a little beyond her at the moment...
