The last time Aphrodite remembered going to her husband like this was during the Trojan War.
Her beautiful son, Aeneas, was vulnerable on the fields before Troy. The blood and gore, the sharp edges of knives and swords surrounding him was an unbearable thought for the goddess to bear. She could do nothing for him, nor was she even capable of staying on the field for much longer until she was wounded herself.
So she went to Hephaestus and asked him for a favor, one that she had repaid in kind, with a way that she was most skilled at. What she originally was made for, really.
He had accepted and made her son a fine armor that even kings of infinite wealth could never have. And her darling boy was saved.
But this time, although she had no son to protect nor a lover to save, it was still, with an ulterior motive, that led her back to her husband. Inside of her, the goddess had been torn and ridden with both the anger, hatred, and the cruel arrows of love. However, opportunity had presented itself in the form of her husband to escape it.
She knew all too well that she wasn't going to be welcomed back with open arms, nor was she going to receive an easy smile from him.
But that was normal. She never planned on staying for long anyways.
Stepping out of the car, Aphrodite wrinkled her nose at the smell of trees and of the earthy quality of the air, being far from the more metallic and mixed smells of the city. The car chirped behind her as she walked towards the house, Aphrodite already finding the simple surroundings and the simple exterior to be very like her husband. But instead of walking up to the front door, she walked around it, needing no permission to look around this so-called "haven" property of his.
And here she had been expecting a small hermit dwelling made out of twigs and branches.
