Jazz was never sure what to do with herself on Sundays. A great deal of her followers, at one time, had been the religious types who spent all of Sunday morning in church and all afternoon/evening doing family meals, but that wasn't her thing. She didn't feel right, going to the church of another god, and so far as family was concerned... well, they were better suited to staying out 'til the wee hours and playing clubs all over the city. It was just an odd day of the week in her opinion.
Though to be honest, how much of Sunday Jazz actually saw was rather less than most. She'd been out until dawn visiting clubs and watching performances, lounging at subway stops with her sax and her open case, listening and playing and soaking up the worship. Only at two in the afternoon did she wake up, and the next few hours had been spent leisurely preparing for another night out. For other women, that time may have been devoted to personal appearance, but such wasn't the case for Jazz. She threw on a blouse and skirt, brushed her hair, and spent the rest of the afternoon lovingly polishing, tuning, and playing her Selmer Mark VI tenor sax. Only when she was satisfied that her prized posession was in good shape did Jazz leave her apartment and head out for the evening.
A bit of wandering found her in the Village at the Cornelia Street Cafe, a place she quite appreciated. Good food, good atmosphere, and excellent performances on a nightly basis. Today she went upstairs to the restaurant proper -- surely the night wouldn't start out well without a good meal first. Instrument case tucked beneath the table at her feet, Jazz sipped from a glass of the house wine after her meal and considered which of the city's myriad jazz clubs she would grace with her presence tonight.
