Who: Raphael (narrative; open to Nergal and other Bellevue workers)
What: 'Nitsa has fun, Nergal coughs and Raphael deals with the consequences
Where: Bellevue Hospital
When: Wednesday 24th, mid afternoon
It had been a regular hyperthermia call. The weather had been cloudy for the past few days; that always meant there were those who did not pay attention to the dangers of too much sun. Dr Jason Alasdair was training a new EMT team, and this was a good example of what they would see for the rest of the season.
As the ambulance veered into the hospital area, the woman in the gurney feebly raised a hand, slowly returning to her senses. While the trainee with him rose and shifted around, ready to open the door and lead the way out, the angel checked the vital signs of the patient and rearranged the drip on her arm. Middle-aged, small, a bit too frail, too much sun in Central Park. Nothing a little time in recovery wouldn't fix.
And then she flat lined. One moment the heart was beating rapidly, the screen above her showing her pulse, the other it was gone. It was a rather common result of heatstroke, but he had been expecting further signs.
Medical procedure kicked in. While his trainee went for the ambulance door, Raphael initiated CPR.
