Who: Allegra Lenkeit (+Elpis) & Dylan Hayes What: Snack Trawling "It's not a challenge; it's an adventure!" Where:PSC [PolishSlavicCenter] Cafeteria When: Thursday, lunch.
Allegra liked the PSC. You didn't have to be Polish to appreciate the skylit cleanliness and "decorative" congregation of burly working guys. there was something about food on a tray--a simple, no frills, sturdy tray--that was vastly comforting to Allegra's point of view.
Of course, her not-quite-secret love of good offal was making her a wee bit biased.
*I think that's a tongue,* Elpis suggested, or maybe warned, cautiously. And indeed it was: tongue with gravy. The heavy slabs of meatloaf, pots of stuffed peppers and hot cutlets were looking so bad either. Lumberjack food, hearty and meaty and good. Her expression of eager appreciation earned Allegra an approving pat on the shoulder from a woman with a face like a wrinkled apple.
But manners were manners, and she was expecting company. Temptation wasn't starving, she could wait. In the mean time Allegra distracted herself with a tart glass of compot and flirting with an off-duty cook in rusty Polish.
