With her recent casting as Roxie, her weekly gig at Smalls, and everything in between, Jazz was one busy girl. But she wouldn’t want it any other way. She was one to enjoy how busy she was, to enjoy every single bit of it. Damn, did she love what she did. She couldn’t trade it for anything in the world. No, this was what she was created for and this was what she would continue to do. Every single day of her life. Right until she was no more. Even a generally happy goddess could think about the end, right? Right.
She hadn’t bothered telling the owner of Smalls about her new job, mainly because she knew the owner well and he would have told her to focus on Roxie. But Jazz wasn’t one to start something and stop. She saw things through to the end, especially when it came to her music. When it came to doing what she loved. She would continue her gig, even when the show started.
The last note of the final song was held out four, five, six beats before she finished. Eyes closed, her head tilted just slightly downward. She hardly ever sang or played with her eyes open. It was as though she could feel the music more easily when her eyes were closed. She could always feel the music, but this way… it was more prominent.
That note reverberated through her body, transferring to the audience. Each person would be able to feel the music just as she felt it, though it wouldn’t be quite as powerful. And then came the applause. Smiling, she opened her eyes slowly and then bowed a moment.
That was the end of the gig, and thus the end of the music… for now. As soon as she had the chance, she’d have her guitar out and she’d be strumming away and humming an unnamed tune. But for now, she could settle with putting away her guitar and going to the bar. There was another musician after her and she liked to stay and listen while she had a drink. She ordered a Long Island Iced Tea and then leaned against the bar as she listened to the next musician.
