Pride had switched genders again? Divorce wished she could have been surprised. A minor detail to file away for later, she did just that so as to focus on Lust. There was a part of Mona, that inner instigator, which wanted to push just a little. Ask about what defined a misstep, see what she could get away with just to ask, just to know, just to prod. Ever since befriending Greed, her relationship with Lust had been precarious. Better, then, to bite her tongue. After knowing the woman for the better part of four centuries, she'd be damned if she let knee-jerk reactions ruin what connection they had. An accidental marriage and an abundance of pride had already done enough of a number on them.
So instead what she said was "I'm glad," and it was true. Watching the Sin earnestly, Mona wore sincerity like it was made for her. "Maybe Paris is behind us, but you've been my friend and a part of Divorce far too long. If it's all the same to you, I'd rather like to try a change of pace and mend fences for once." Glancing down for a moment, she tried to take a mental step back. She wanted to offer an olive branch, a bauble, whatever it took. She'd always been so straightforward with the Sins -- Mona tugged strings and manipulated and never gave it a second thought but for those precious few whom she didn't bother to bullshit.
Was it a sign of weakness that she was hating this attempt to play Lust? How much of it was her own regret and how much of it influenced by Desmond? She felt as much a thrill as just plain horror at realizing just how deeply Lust and Greed had wound themselves into Divorce's emotional life. "He's always come and gone like the wind," she said about Desmond, quirking a smile that she didn't feel. "I've known him for awhile and while he's a wild one... Well, you can't ask for a better fall-back than Des.
"I have to admit, though, that I think you've accomplished the impossible. The man's a notorious philanderer. He's never asked me to check in on anyone before." Mostly true. "He'd kill me for saying it, but I think you've infatuated him." That, at least, sure as hell wasn't a lie.
