Wayne's handshake was firm and brief, very business-like, yet friendly. He'd been in charge of bringing the money in. Mister Sheppard and Mister Whedon had provided him with a list of people they wanted to be there and the other mortals, well, they probably had the status of stage props.
"The 'how' doesn't really matter as long as you are enjoying yourself," he said, giving Alyssa an amused smile and a light shrug.
"Oh she is enjoying herself," David interjected, sounding a little bit sour. "She's having a blast with her partner and everyone else." The 'except me' hung unsaid, heavy and awkward in the air.
Gambling's assistant blinked a little. How could David talk about his date as if she wasn't standing right in front of them? Did he want this to not work out?
"Well, like I said, having fun is all that really matters. Nobody wants anyone to feel miserable at a party and nobody with just a hint of an idea of how to have a good time has to be. Right?" Wayne chuckled softly and patted the other man on the back. "Would you like something to drink, Alyssa?"
