I am the damage. I am the relief.
Who: National Security (absolutecontrol) [Closed]
What: Everything is changing but some things never change. It's comforting to have old patterns to fall back on.
Where: NYC
When: Friday night
A split lip, a slowly forming bruise on his jaw, an aching ribcage and slightly burning knuckles were not usually something anyone would be comfortable with. However, in spite of the knowledge that Enola was royally pissed off at him and at Ares for reasons he hadn't managed to get out of her, the pain and the fact that he'd been kicked out of his own flat, National Security felt like normalcy was taking a tentative step back into his life.
The time for walking on eggshells around each other was passing away and soon the air between them would be free of the thousands of 'I'm sorrys' which were currently polluting it.
After standing on the wrong side of his front door for a couple of minutes, Jamie left the building, got into his car and drove back to his office. He'd been working mostly from home for the past week and it seemed as if now was a good time for them to give each other the space they needed.
His assistant had left a bunch of messages on his desk - in case he came in for a late night session as he sometimes did. Settling down at his desk, he leafed through them idly, tossing most of them into the bin immediately after reading without giving them a second thought. It was funny what mortals deemed important sometimes.
Around midnight, the phone rang; the caller asking, "Are you free tonight?"
Mortal, investment banker, mid-thirties, curvy, pretty face, gorgeous legs, blonde.
Uncomplicated.
"Yes."
Jamie covered her sleeping form with a blanket before he left and told the receptionist to wake her around 5:30am. The sky was growing light as he stepped out of the Mandarin Oriental and drove back to his office to pick up some files.
Normalcy. One step at a time.
