Who: Astraois and Zephyrus
What: Father and son Q&A time.
Where: Eos' place
When: Saturday, early morning
Warnings: Language from Zeph

The only reason why Zephyrus had asked his father to meet him in the early morning was because he wasn't planning to be in the city, come afternoon. Otherwise, the wind god would have gladly picked another time, since dawn was an uncomfortable time to even him, only because it reminded him of his mother who was part of the reason why Zephyrus wanted to leave the city.

His father was the other half, but Zephyrus knew better than to give the man lip and show him that there wasn't welcome arms from his son. Zephyrus really had nothing against his family, really. Boreas was an asshole, but so was Zephyrus when it came down to it. Astraea was Astraea, the golden baby of their family, and really, a better person than Zephyrus--not that he was trying to be a good person. As for the bajillion others of his siblings, he didn't particularly give a rat's ass about and it pretty much stayed that way for the longest time.

You didn't have to care about family when you were on the road, carefree and not having to care about anything.

Then again, there was Iris and to Zephyrus, his wife was his world. However, she was more of the family type, so how could he ask her to leave them on the account of his whims? Although he loved her, she was also completely opposite of him. In a really non-asshole way, he was trying to be considerate. (Everyone thought otherwise, it seemed.)

But first things were first, and under five minutes from where he called home, Zephyrus was at the address given to him. He hadn't fully recovered from covering Boreas' ass for the whole snowstorm thing, so he tried not to exactly breeze through the streets, but he was in a hurry. He wanted to get out of here as fast as he could and when a wind wanted to go, nothing kept it in place.

When Zephyrus had suggested leaving without seeing him - after it had been made clear that he did in fact wish to see his son - Astraios had felt a small flicker of anger. It had certainly been too long since they’d seen each other if Zephyrus was considering ignoring his request.

He wasn’t leaving without seeing him, though, and that was good. He wanted Zephyrus to talk to him, tell him about what had been troubling him….and tell him about Boreas. Astraios already had reason to be displeased with him…..and then Zephyrus had mentioned snow in May.

Boreas had not yet replied to Astraios…..though Orithyia had. Orithyia’s happiness was going to be a factor in how he dealt with his son….but so was Boreas’ continued silence.

Astraios was waiting for Zephyrus, and he didn’t wait for a knock or a ring at the door. He had left Eos in bed, and he didn’t want her disturbed. Instead, he opened the door and looked his son over for a moment before stepping aside and waiting for him to walk in. He thought Zephyrus looked alright….if a little tired. Snow in Spring would explain that, though.

“I’m glad to see you, Zephyrus.”

Zephyrus may have not seen most of his family members for some time, due to his tendency to hop about the whole world, but it was his Father that Zephyrus had the longest distance and time away from. Considering that it was someone close and the same person that watched over him and his brothers while growing up, Astraois might even be someone that Zephyrus would want to see. But family was family, and for odd reasons enough, Astraois was someone that made the god nervous.

If anything, Zephyrus didn't get nervous over nothing.

"Father," Zephyrus greeted him, impressively without an ounce of hesitation in his voice. Although he did stare a little bit when he finally saw Astraois face to face, but that quickly passed when he went inside.

Astraios shut the door and turned, leading the way to a room where they could sit and talk with no question in his mind that Zephyrus would automatically follow. He was genuinely glad to see his son, and had not been pleased to hear all was not well with him. He hoped that once they began talking, Zephyrus would tell him everything that was troubling him. Astraios always did his best to see to the needs of his family……and to see that they themselves were not the source of anyone else’s troubles. It had not always been an easy thing to manage.

Reaching the room he had in mind for them, Astraios made himself comfortable in an armchair, keeping both hands settled loosely on his cane before him. He waited for Zephyrus to take a seat.

“Make yourself comfortable, son. Please.”

The wind god's eyes were immediately drawn to the cane before his father, raising a brow at it. No use in hiding emotions, especially when you were well aware of the fact of what your Father was capable of but then again, he was always quite the pessimist. The cane might've just been an accessory, that's all.

But he never really did get a lot from being optimistic anyways.

Without a word, Zephyrus sat directly across from Astraois, sitting stiffly in his chair and on the edge. He wanted to get out and it showed in his body language. Although he had the respect required for his father, even the Titan himself couldn't change the mindset of the wind god for hightailing it out of here.

Astraios waited, watching Zephyrus seat himself and noting the look his cane received. His son looked most eager to be gone, and as it was his nature, Astraios couldn’t blame him too much. Still, he hadn’t seen him in ages…..they were going to have a conversation. He didn’t bother to say anything about the cane.

“So, Zephyrus…..tell me what’s troubled you. I want to hear about what’s been happening. You mentioned suspicions and…..other things.” He leaned forward in his chair a little bit. “We will discuss your brother after that.”

Zephyrus tried not to show his surprise at how his father guessed that Boreas' name would come out first when he asked what was troubling Zephyrus. But of course, Boreas' name would be first, following his mother's and then Zeus himself. And after that, it was just going to be in whatever order Zephyrus would randomly make.

However, he never was a fan of Q&A, so by nature, he stubbornly stayed quiet for some time, resisting the urge to scoot back a bit further in his chair. But after the silence and no one said anything, Zephyrus sighed and ran a hand through his blond hair, similarily colored like his father's.

"Like I said to you earlier, I'm not particularly sure what's been happening around this place myself. Zeus, is recently woken. So, I'm thinking natural chaos in order, knowing how the Olympians usually freak out. From Iris, I know that there were sides and it just wasn't pretty overall. Hades, I think, was king for a while. But who really gives a shit what these Olympians do, anyways?" The younger god grumbled, a little bit surprised at how much came out in less than five minutes.

"And suspicions, well, you can figure that one out. I've always had one since I realized I had brothers and sisters that weren't calling you 'Father'. But that's just me and my cynical self." It was unfair, really, that Zephyrus' tone was slightly bitter although his mother had been everything but unpleasant. However, like Boreas at times, Zephyrus just wasn't one to be compassionate.

Zephyrus hadn’t put too fine a point on it, but he was right - all that had happened with Zeus and the other Olympians wasn’t of much concern. If they wanted to upset the semblance of order they’d kept since time began, that was their business. Iris would care, of course, having chosen Zeus’ side long ago….but Astraios didn’t hold that against her.

What his son said next, Astraios was unprepared for. When Zephyrus mentioned suspicions, the very last thing to enter his mind would have been Eos. While Astraios had left her side at certain times, while he was always careful to announce his presence well before appearing, while he knew exactly what he was doing and why, there was no thinking on the subject, and absolutely no discussing it. Knowing the jealous nature of at least two of his sons, he’d expected any suspicions and anger from Zephyrus to be directed towards men who’d gotten a little too close to Iris……not towards Eos.

His grip on the cane before him tightened suddenly and Astraios caught himself from getting up from his seat, but just barely. “You have precious little time to change what you just said, Zephyrus. I will not tolerate one word against your mother.”

And there it was.

The reason why one-forth of the Anemoi felt like he was going to be sliced and diced into one-sixteenth of his former self. It took everything in Zephyrus' will and pride to not edge back into his seat, instead he just watched the cane warily, making sure that it wasn't going to fly towards him any time soon. He could duck and dodge, but seeing how the past few days and weeks had taken a toll on him, Zephyrus wasn't going to be on himself being the victor out of this.

"You wanted to hear what I had to say, and I said it, Father. I'm not going to tell you lies and things that I didn't worry about." Zephyrus' tone was very stiff. "But to Mother's sake and to her credit, I admit in being wrong in saying anything suspicious about her. I don't have hard evidence to show against her."

And apparently this whole affair thing with mortals was still a touchy subject. Thanks for the heads-up, Dad.

“That, son, is one subject you don’t have to worry about.” Had it not been for Zephyrus’ admitting he was wrong, Astraios wouldn’t even have bothered to talk. He would have made his point quite clear without words. He wasn’t, however, one to not forgive momentary lapses. “Is that all you had to tell me, Zephyrus? Nothing else troubles you? We may as well move on to discussing your brother if all that worried you were baseless accusations. Unless you have anything to say about…..what was it? The dead returning. That is something I would think bears listening to.”

At the moment, Zephyrus was more than happy to switch topics, although he was still pretty bitter about his father having dismissed things like that to the side. Suddenly he became the bad guy--okay, so he was an asshole for bringing it up--but it wasn't as if the history of Eos' dating relationships was skewed by "not worrying about it". Sometimes Zephyrus forgot it was a curse affecting his mother, not quite free-will to do so.

"Sarcasm doesn't become you Father, but thank you for the weight off of my shoulders then."

It was a bold move, standing up, but Zephyrus was all about risks at the moment. All he wanted to do was to get back to Iris, not play patient and doctor with his Father.

Astraios felt a brief flare of fury that subsided almost immediately after he used his cane to sweep Zephyrus’ feet out from beneath him. He still wasn’t happy with him and the appalling lack of respect he was receiving, but he would wait. Waking Eos because he was giving one of their sons a good thrashing wasn’t at all what he’d intended when he’d asked to see Zephyrus. He had hoped for a calm conversation, some catching up and some discussion of various matters of import. The fact that he’d quietly and quickly put aside a stack of paper indicating otherwise the previous evening didn’t even enter his thoughts.

He never expected this kind of behaviour…..but neither was he ever truly surprised. He was disappointed.

“I assure you, there was no sarcasm in my words. It was your own tone in which you heard it.” Astraios sat back down, silently hoping he wouldn’t have to get up again. “We can be done quickly if you would just sit for a few minutes and talk to me about anything else that I should know about. If you truly have nothing else but your brother to discuss, then go ahead and tell me of him. I do hope, though, Zephyrus, that if there is even one small thing that bothers you” he shot his son a look that clearly said ‘but not about your mother’ “you will tell me.”

It wasn't the first time that Astraois had taken his son by surprise and rather painfully. Zephyrus probably could say that he got used to it in his "younger" days, although much heavier duty stuff was used than just a measly cane. However, it didn't mean that the god liked getting told like this.

A short string of curses were hissed out as Zephyrus' arm was suddenly made to cushion his fall and his head missed the chair by a couple of mere centimeters. Rolling onto his back, Zephyrus shot his father a look before exhaling loudly, eyes focused on a spot on the ceiling. Sure, he could understand that his father loved his mother, but to keep things under wraps about her when things were always that obvious?

He might not have evidence, but Zephyrus was damn sure that bitch of a love goddess didn't grant pardons either.

"Can I get up from the floor, or are you going to do that again, Father? Because I don't want to explain any bruises to Iris, I'm fucke--injured already trying to deal with Boreas' crap."

“You’re free to sit down, Zephyrus, of course.” Of course he was, he just wasn’t free to walk out on his father before they were done. Astraios didn’t think he asked for so much from his children that he shouldn’t get it all. He was certainly willing to let some things go with his son this morning……..the comments about Eos and the entire subject of Iris, the latter made very difficult by Zephyrus mentioning her. Still…….Astraios had already argued with Zephyrus about that before, and bringing it up again wasn’t likely to get them anywhere new. It was only likely to make both of them angry.

As for the subject of Boreas……. “Do you mean the storm, or your brother himself? I imagine both would have been difficult. Snow in your season…..something must have upset him greatly.”

Even though he got the verbal promise, Zephyrus still looked at his Father warily as he got up, careful not to wince and let it show that the fall probably bruised up his arm. But he wasn't a wimp, he could take it, just like how he took Boreas' punches, without complaining. Except for a couple of choice words about what he thought of his brother.

The West Wind pulled a dejavu as he sat down in the chair opposite his father again, a not-so-pleased look on his face just like the one he had given Astraois originally.

"Both," Zephyrus agreed, holding back the urge to roll his eyes. He had his moment of anger about the whole situation but for his Father to talk about something distressing Boreas? Zephyrus didn't think of it that way, but now that he thought of it, the West Wind would be more likely to do things like that for no reason than Boreas. But there was a reason why people strongly disliked the both of them.

"Beats me. I thought he was looking for an excuse to start shit up. He wasn't on good relations with Orithyia anyways." There might've been a lightbulb somewhere above Zephyrus' head as to figuring out why and what Boreas would have reason to make it snow, but it went ignored.

Astraios forcibly bit back an exasperated sigh. Leave it to his sons to both be involved in something but not know why the other was doing it. “I know he and Orithyia were separated. Why he would suddenly cause such a freak storm over it…….I suppose is one question I’ll have to ask him myself.” Especially, Astraios silently added, as their separation was Boreas’ fault entirely. It seemed as though he was going to have a lot to answer for.

“I imagine your brother caused you a lot of work. Did he cause you any trouble with those the storm affected?”

"Yes, please, by all means, make him explain it." Zephyrus suggested, although he made a mental note to try not to sound that obviously sarcastic in the near future unless he wanted that cane right between his eyes. He had to make a decision, which was to be downright miserable about this and prolonging it; or he could just clench his teeth and be cooperative and let things just take their course.

It was hard being disobedient sometimes, really.

"As far as I know, no one knows who caused the storm or no one really cares. There was this whole frenzy of people panicking and screaming 'bloody-fucking-murder' like headless chickens but so far, I haven't received death threats and neither has Boreas. At least not to my knowledge on his part."

“I see.” That neither of them had had any trouble over the storm was surprising, but as it was one less thing to deal with, Astraios wouldn’t question it too much. That it wasn’t an issue was very fortunate for Boreas. It also was probably best for Zephyrus as well, though getting him to say anything like that seemed near impossible. Getting him to say anything was difficult.

With a quiet sigh, Astraios gave his son one final searching look before dropping his gaze to his hands on his cane. “I won’t ask you anything more, Zephyrus. If you want to go, go. If going back to Iris is the most pressing business you have, I am glad.”

There was probably some other things that Zephyrus would've liked to talked to his father about. Or just blurt out just because they were things that he couldn't even talk to his wife about. They included a certain youth's reappearance and the sudden urge to go away again. Whether or not it was because of spring's end coming up did Zephyrus feel like this or Hyacinthos' reappearance, Zephyrus just wasn't getting the answer from himself.

But they all went unsaid as he only focused upon his father letting the wind god go back to Iris. Maybe some other day, when he felt like spilling out his guts like the mortals do in a shrink session.

Maybe.

Zephyrus warily stood up again, this time at a slower pace, just in case his father was joking and just wanted to use that cane of his again.

"So...can I go?" he asked, just to double-check.

“If there is nothing more you want to say, Zephyrus, yes. You may go. I wanted to see you, and you came. I won’t take any more of your time.” Astraios looked up at his son, taking in the hair and eyes so much like his own.

“I’m happy to have seen you before you left. If there is anything that bothers you, son, now or in the future, I am here.”

The words struck a little bit of regret in Zephyrus, who had been treating the entire visit as something dreadful and very much like an interview with the devil. So in hearing his father say something like this, it took self-discipline of Zephyrus' to just nod and take the offer like he would any. His father didn't say anything about leaving soon or the like, so there would be plenty of opportunities to talk with him if he ever felt the need to spill on what was "bothering" him.

"Thank you, Father. Send my regards to Mother when she wakes up. I'll talk to her later." With one more brief eye contact, Zephyrus then walked past his father and back towards the hallway where he had came from.

Although his actions were dictated mostly from his reluctance in being "family friendly" at the moment, Zephyrus truly did make it a genuine note that he would speak to his father about some matters that had bothered him. But not now; now he had a devoted wife to go back to and a city to escape from.
