Triton had siblings, but at the mention of where any concern for Amaterasu came from, it was his daughters he thought of. He could well understand this point, and he also understood the futileness of any assurances he made. It wasn’t often the actions of his pantheon affected his life in this way…..but he had little difficulty grasping why they would. In fact, the two people who had done unforgivable things to his family were his uncle and his own father. Not for the first time, Triton thought that couldn’t say much about his own character. He would never do what they had, of course, but it was all too easy to judge. All he could do was let his actions speak for themselves…..which, he supposed, to some degree they had.
“Your asking doesn’t change a thing….I have every intention of treating her as she should be treated. I know who she is, and I am most privileged to learn just how lovely she is. I would do nothing to spoil that. My actions are dictated by my respect for her, and my admiration. I can offer you no better promise for my conduct than that.”
Triton was not foolish enough to think that treating Amaterasu well was a simple request. No matter how quiet they made their relationship, he had no doubt it would still be watched closely. Understanding the reasons why didn’t make it any less irritating. Still….he couldn’t very well argue the point. It would be useless……and what he did wasn’t going to be changed by this meeting, in any case.
