Triton was easily able to ignore glances from anyone else in the room. He stayed relaxed in his seat, watching the man across from him carefully measuring his words. He had not been given the courtesy of receiving his actual name, but it was easy enough to guess at who he was speaking with.
He waited for the other’s speech to end, taking in everything that was said with no outward reaction. He wasted little time wondering how his own identity had been discovered……it had, and the result was all that really mattered - and the result was a member of Amaterasu’s family basically telling him to stay away from her because he was…..what? Specifically Greek, or simply not Japanese? Which fact bothered the other god more? Once again, the answer didn’t matter very much.
“What Amaterasu does and who she decides to acquaint herself with is, I completely agree, her own business entirely. She seems more than capable of making good decisions on those or any subject.” Triton took his time speaking, seeing no need to get defensive or push his point. He had an idea they had both come here with equally fixed points of view. Getting his out in the open was his only goal at the moment.
“Keeping that in mind, I can only wonder what you hope to accomplish by this meeting. Are you simply expressing concern, or do you hope this will somehow convince me to cut off my friendship with your sister? Since you say you have no intention of interfering, I can only assume it is the former option. If that is so, then I can simply do my best to assuage your concerns. I am well aware of the reputation my pantheon has. This reputation is based on the actions of some of my people. Not all of them.” Triton’s voice was calm, at ease. “Even being a member of my pantheon, I can well understand the notion of conservatism, and though I suppose I can’t prove a thing here and now, I can yet say the manner in which I live won’t be putting Amaterasu into any moral danger. I imagine if it did, she would not have anything to do with me…..and that is what matters to me. Her thoughts on this matter.”
Triton found he’d leaned forward slightly while speaking, and made himself sit back casually once more. There was no chance that anyone beside Amaterasu herself was going to sway him on this. He most certainly wasn’t going to let himself be influenced by careful wording and quiet implications. He could play that game too.
