Who: Comfort Food and Divorce (Desmond)
What: It's not about the thanks.
Where: Tante Mattie's, New Orleans
When: Backdated to Saturday, lunch
There were many places where Comfort Food felt at home - in fact, any place she was the place got a little bit more comfortable, a little bit more like home, the good home, the home where there was food and warmth and hot cocoa and security. But of the many places CeCe went, the place where she felt most at home was in the South. There was something about the warmth, and the food which just 'did her bones good.'
She hadn't been too surprised that Desmond had wanted to meet her to thank her for Mona - the relationship between those two was one which Comfort Food had actually devoted a considerable amount of thought, considering the nature of Divorce and just how close the two of them were... and that Des had absolutely refused to tell her just what kind of deity he was, in his own teasing, outrageous way, of course. But after turning the question over in her mind back and forth through the years, CeCe had decided that it really wasn't any of her business. She didn't particularly like puzzles, and as long as everyone was happy, what was the point of thinking too deeply? After all, everyone had their secrets.
She'd told Desmond that she'd meet him at a true hole in the wall, very much locals only. Tante Mattie's served the best jambalaya in New Orleans, if she did say so herself, and there was nearly always some starving local artist coming in to make the music live from a corner Tante had set up just for that purpose. It was a shady little place, with its own share of dark corners, voodoo, and secrets, but every surface gleamed with cleanliness and even though Mattie was getting on in years, she ran a tight ship. CeCe made a point to visit and bless the place every time she was in town.
One of her favorite spots in the place was clear - just slightly to the center, it was funny how fast the corners filled up in this place - with a good enough view of everyone and the door. CeCe was a bit early and had just settled in, wanting to get the feel of the place again before blessing it - taking care of business before he arrived. She was sure he'd be there soon. She didn't hold out much hope for him to be punctual, though.
