The sharpness that entered his tone didn't surprise Jord, she had expected such a response, or at least something similar. She simply nodded, finished her beer, and gave a small smile to accept his apology. "So you connected," Jord replied, pausing when the bartender brought two new beers to the table, took the frothy, empty glasses. "Physically," she added when the man left, as if to clarify. "And then you both realized that there was something beyond this physical connection. Something deeper."
She was quiet for a moment, dropping her cigarette onto the table, which swallowed it up the way it swallowed the ashes. "So...why, then, did she neglect you before your friend? Would this friend have any reason not to be happy for you? or was it, perhaps, her own discomfort with being unaware of your true emotion?"
Not used to sharing, the words flickered back through her mind and Jord smirked a bit. "What a difficult thing it is," she murmured, shaking her head, smiling almost sardonically. "What a strange and difficult thing it is for two immortals to be able to match in any real way, over the long haul. Monogamy is almost laughable, among us, and yet so many of us still desire it. You have to...decide what you can live with. If she touches someone else, what you will feel. If that touch turns to more touches, turns to sex, and when then, if it turns to something deeper, if someone else is found? How badly would it hurt....and is it worth that pain? Could you share, should she desire it? For there are connections to be had in this world, many connections. But monogamy....dare I say, love, it is something else entirely."
