Who: Adonis and College Where: Central Park When: Late afternoon, Friday. Warnings:Adonisisanidiot Alcohol, sexuality (consensual this time!)
Adonis had never been good at separating need from want but even he could tell the difference this time. Jord had been what he wanted. Jord had made him better. Jord had almost made him good. Jord had made him want to change his promiscuous ways, Jord had made him want to throw his past aside and become something different, positive, less hurtful, less manipulative, less prone to simply tearing devotion from mortals and leaving them wanting, addicted, shivering and aching in need for just one more second with the personification of beauty and youth, desperate for one more night spent in his arms, bed but never, ever, ever his heart.
But after thousands of years, change was utterly impossible.
College was what he needed. Just as promiscuous, just as fickle (and Adonis knew this wouldn't last), just as flighty and immoral. With Jord, he pushed down most of his natural instincts; with College, they could flourish. But even as he walked through Central Park in bare feet and his gardening clothes, he could feel the rain on the grass, in the trees and knew, simply knew, that it was a result of the mourning of Jord and Adonis mourned as well. Theias laughed his barking laugh and tumbled around his feet, rolling in the wet grass and chasing after squirrels and even the hound was a reminder of her. A good reminder, however. Something to remember her by when College left and he was alone again.
Leaning against one of the wooden railings of a bridge crossing over a small stream, Adonis took a mickey of vodka from his pocket and drank half of it down with relief in an attempt to quash the lingering feelings of guilt as he watched Theias splash into the stream gleefully and snap at the ducks. Laughing, Adonis shook his head briefly. "Let them be for now, friend." He murmured in Ancient Greek as he wondered when College would come. They hadn't agreed on a time but it didn't matter. College would be there eventually and until then, he would simply watch the rather comical sight of Theias snapping at the ducks with his jaws and then looking up at his master with wide, innocent eyes.
