Where: College's dorm

Warnings: Destructive dance, song number... oh, who's counting anymore?

Theias was behaving but Adonis asked the next door neighbour to keep an eye on him anyway before leaving, pulling a light jacket on over his t-shirt and jeans and grabbing his keys before letting Theias give him a sloppy kiss. The dog tried to follow him out but Adonis merely laughed and gave him a quiet command in Greek, the hound instantly stilling and sitting quietly, looking up at him with a forlorn expression. "I'll be back later, promise." Adonis murmured in his language of old before heading down the hallway and out onto the sunny street.

Blinking in the light, he took a cab to campus, trying to ignore the growing feeling of anxiety inside him. College's dorm. The very thought set him on edge but he pushed the trepidation deep, deep down inside him and covered it up with nothing but good will toward his friend as he stopped by a campus coffee shop, buying four huge cups filled with enough expresso to have a human wired for days. The cashier gave him an odd look because even the most studious never ordered fifteen expresso shots in each coffee but Adonis merely gave her his typical bright smile and she didn't say a word.

Walking toward College's building, he juggled the tray of coffee and a cigarette, smoking furiously to quash the lingering memories. They were memories he enjoyed, however, memories he cherished as the only time he'd be allowed to have College and that thought... Well, Adonis pushed it deep inside him as well. Finally reaching that almost terrifying door, Adonis brushed the hair out of his eyes, took a deep breath, pushing a wide smile onto his face and knocked quietly.

No matter how excited College was about the prospect of having Adonis come over, there was very little he could do to prevent himself from looking like a wreck. There was no smoking allowed in his building, and so he had made a makeshift ashtray out of one of Jeanette's old compacts. The thing was littered with cigarette butts and he had to constantly use his powers to clear out the smell from the room. Empty coffee cups and a few bright orange pill bottles spilled out of his small trash bin at the side of his bed. Nearly every textbook available to NYU students was represented on College's mattress, there were also a couple of French ones because they comforted him for some reason that taunted him on the edge of his consciousness.

When he heard the knock at his door he shot up like a rocket and nearly fell out of his bed. He scampered to the doorway, knocking a couple of textbooks to the floor, and opened his door with a fresh grin that would have looked healthier if his left eye hadn't been twitching. "Hey!" He exclaimed, and eyed the coffee in Adonis' hands greedily. He leaned in to press a kiss to the spring god's cheek and waved him in, snatching one of the cups as he passed. College took a large gulp of the coffee and immediately looked a little better. "Thank goodness." He said happily, closing the door behind Adonis. "How are you?"

The door opened and Adonis' eyes immediately flicked over to the bed, taking in all the textbooks and the clutter before focusing back on College. His friend's state made him wince and he easily gave one of the coffees up to the younger god, smiling at him with just a tinge of worry hidden beneath his pleasure at seeing College again. "Hey you." He murmured, tilting his head to accept the kiss.

Pressing one to College's cheek in return, he stepped in, setting the coffee tray down on the end of the bed and turned back to look at his friend. "I'm good, always good. I'm more worried about you." He frowned, ignoring the bed, ignoring the memories and reached out to draw College into a loose hug, watching not to spill the coffee. "Can I help you study or do you just want to chill?"

With Adonis around again, everything was okay. It was as if he had opened his door and let in the world, with all its beauty and splendor, and it was all for him. Adonis' arms around him were a cool breeze, refreshing and sufficiently distracting enough for him to relax. He sucked down a bit more of the coffee and then sighed, briefly resting his temple on Adonis' shoulder. "Are you kidding?" He asked finally, and straightened up, tossing the already drained coffee cup into the bin. He strode to his bed and was careful not to knock his books on classical mythology to the floor.

"Man, you would not believe what I've been doing." College said with a grin, picking up another cup of coffee. Sensing Adonis' apprehension, he went to his closet, opened it, and pulled out a neon green folding chair, and set it up beside his bed, then proceeded to plop himself on the edge of his mattress. "A good chunk of my kids are done, now all I have to worry about art Advanced Placement tests and the fucking LSATs. So, yeah," He said, licking his lips, "Dude, I seriously just want to chill. What's up with you?"

Adonis nuzzled briefly down into College's hair, inhaling lightly and closing his eyes because this was College. Whatever hold Adonis had over the younger god, College had a hold over him as well. It was that damned contract, the residue that still wound its way around his psyche and reacted to orders, to manipulation. Glancing down to the mythology textbooks, Adonis couldn't help but smile at the sight of what was pretty much his pantheon's main source of power these days.

Giving College a thankful look, he sank down into the chair and propped his feet up on a stack of American history books, pushing the hair out of his face before he replied. "The LSATs? Ouch. Those must be a pain in the ass." He couldn't help but watch as College licked his lips, mirroring the gesture almost subconsciously as he thought about what he had been doing. "Nothing as exciting as getting millions of students through their exams, you can be sure of that. Hunting, training Theias, avoiding anyone Greek." He smirked slightly, absentmindedly twirling a lock of hair around his fingers. "With the exception of Theias, it's what I've been doing for a few thousand years." Except, of course, he wasn't mentioning the sex with random mortals but that was just to be expected of him.

"If any of the Greeks start causing you problems, tell me and I'll kick their asses." College said in all seriousness, and then grinned again. He meant it, certainly, having those mythology textbooks was a very good way to remind himself that he held all the power in their little game of balance. Forget those old coots, College could protect Adonis from any and all of them. He gulped down the rest of his coffee and tossed that cup away, as well. "Yeah, LSATs kick my ass, tomorrow I'll probably be in a Ritalin coma, I can't believe how many of my kids are doing that shit these days - it's good shit, but man, there's a lot of it." He chuckled and glanced down at the two remaining cups of coffee, then to Adonis, "You want any of this, man - 'cause I'm going to drink it all if you don't."

Adonis gave College his best smile, letting go of his hair for the moment to lean forward, elbows on his knees and chin propped up in his hands. "Thanks, man. Kind of like being free and, you know, alive." He smirked slightly, glancing down at the coffee. "Sure, I'll have a bit. Not too much though, there's enough caffeine in these to wake the dead and a hyper Adonis isn't exactly a pretty sight." Obviously, Adonis in any state was gorgeous but he'd wait for College to say that.

Snagging one of the cups, he took a long sip and instantly felt more awake, his eyes widening slightly. "Is it wrong that I want to leaf through those textbooks and see what they have to say about me?" He asked, taking another sip and shivering just a bit as the caffeine ran through his form.

"You're always a pretty sight." College said adoringly, as if on cue. He reached to one side and picked up a textbook as Adonis drank. He set the book in his lap and began to flip through until he came to a page with a picture of Adonis and - uh oh - the Bitch. College tilted the book up in his lap and grinned at Adonis. "Very bland writing, really." He teased, "Just a list of facts with big words about unimportant things in between. Can you believe I have to read this stuff all day?" He glanced down at the page and began to 'read' in a very scholarly tone, "Adonis was the god of frat parties, everyone agreed that he was an excellent dancer while drunk, and did great keg stands."

Adonis practically preened, sitting up straight and patting his hair down in a rather over-exaggerated move. "Glad you think so." It took him a moment to decide, but he was moving over to sit on the bed next to College, looking curiously down at the picture. "They couldn't have given me more muscle definition?" He asked, smirking down at the sculpture, his eyes only darkening slightly at the sight of Aphrodite. "Those unimportant things are my life, you know." He teased and then leaned back on his hands to listen to College's 'scholar' voice.

"He was also the god of kicking frat boys' asses, doing as many drugs as possible and luring Brian Molko into bed." Adonis added, affecting his own scholarly tone and simply laughing. "Oh, man, if only."

"Let Zeus and Ares be bulgy." College said dismissively, his heart speeding up just a little bit when Adonis decided to sit next to him. "I like you the way you are." He continued, giving the Greek an appreciative glance - or three. "I mean unimportant things like .. who discovered your first statues, the translator of the text, things like that." He grinned, "The first time I messed around with you in the 60s, I went and read everything I could about you, now you're just - old hat." A lie, of course, he could never get enough of Adonis. College let out a snort. "Bedroom -" He laughed, "As if you could have waited long enough to get him into a bedroom." The memory of MJ's party caused a small shiver to go up College's spine - to be so close to Adonis and yet so far away had been absolute torture, and he had a feeling that the spring god knew it, "He was also the god of being a fucking tease-"

Adonis' eyes grew dark at the mention of Zeus and Ares but it passed rather quickly as College complimented him again and he sat up only to stretch his arms above his head. "Mm, thanks." He murmured, resting his chin on College's shoulder to look down at the book again, reaching to turn the page and smiling a bit at the next picture. "That one's always been a favourite of mine." He said lightly, ignoring the boar and the look of pain on his marble face. "I like what they did with my hair."

College snorted and Adonis couldn't help but laugh, nudging him with an elbow. "Not my fault, you know how I can get sometimes. Besides, he's a modern Adonis, I couldn't help myself." Adonis kept a straight face as College continued, adding to it yet again in his best imitation of College's scholar voice. "Who only teased those who truly enjoyed it, who loved the torture and kept asking for more." He pressed a light kiss to College's cheek. "Also, he was the god of bringing coffee to overworked gods who really, really needed it."

College found it a bit odd that Adonis' favorite statue of himself included the boar that Ares had sent to castrate him, but who was he to question Adonis when he was so close? "It's pretty." He murmured, "It's amazing how lifelike they got those statues. They're basically huge rocks, but they have so much energy in them, like they could just get up and live." College shook his head slightly, "Mm. Beautiful." And, really, was he talking about the statue anymore? Of course not. He reached up a hand to idly wrap his index finger around a lock of Adonis' hair. His skin tingled where Adonis' lips left it, and he had to resist the urge to duck his head in order to hide his blush. "You're a lifesaver." He said in a small voice, "But you're right, I do. Enjoy it, I mean."

Adonis nodded slightly. "They had inspiration. They could see us bursting out of the stone. We called to them even after our pantheon faded from our former glory. We still call, but to different people. Your people, mainly." His eyelids fluttered as College wrapped a finger around a lock of his hair, thinking it utterly unfair that such a simple touch, that any touch to his hair could cause his blood to rush faster, his heart to pound. "I know you do." He cooed, reaching up to brush fingertips over College's cheek. "Don't think it's one-sided, College. Just being around you..." He trailed off, unable to stop himself from pressing another kiss to College's cheek, just a bit closer to his lips before he sighed, pulling back. He flopped down on the bed, the same one that had been giving him nightmares, staring up at the ceiling. "None of this is really fair, is it? To either of us, really."

College remain sitting straight up for a bit longer, he licked his thumb and flicked through a few more pages of the textbook. Even now it was hard to believe that the beautiful creature in painting upon painting, immortalized in perfectly carved marble, was the same Adonis laying in his bed. He gently shut the book in his lap and bent down to put both it and the remaining cup of coffee on the floor. He let out a soft yawn and then lay back on his bed on his stomach beside Adonis, his chin propped up on one hand. "I know it's .. hard for you. To come back here, I mean." Regret weighed heavily on College's heart, he reached his free hand to lightly stroke Adonis' cheek. "I'm so sorry, Adonis. I know I make things complicated for you."

Adonis smiled up at the ceiling as College continued to read through the book, feeling the tiniest jolt of power at the attention his friend was paying to the old works of art. He stretched again as College put the book down, letting his arms fall back down to the bed around his head, turning his cheek into the comforter to look over at his friend. "Yeah." He admitted softly with a little shrug. "But you needed coffee and I'm your friend. It's okay." The touch on his cheek made him sigh happily and close his eyes briefly. "It doesn't feel like it should be complicated, when I'm around you. I feel light, happy, for the most part." Eyes opened back up to look at College, a hand shifting to land on the god's forearm, thumb rubbing over smooth skin just for the sake of contact. "Don't apologize. It's not your fault. I just wish that all that," He nodded toward the dorm window to signify the outside world. "Would just go away for a bit. Just a little bit, you know?"
