"Oh! I beg your pardon, miss, I was lost in thought," Laudanum apologized as soon as she realized that yes, she'd run into someone and it was a female someone. She hadn't fallen, simply staggered a little, but she felt terrible that it was her fault the other girl had fallen. "Are you injured?"
She was about to say that she could help, could ease the pain. But there was a reason she wasn't supposed to tell people that. It was very, very important that she use a mortal name and play-act being a mortal when around them. So Laudanum --Charlotte-- brushed the skirt of her dress down and did her best to seem as unassuming as possible. As far as she knew, she was talking to a mortal. If at any time in her life she had been able to detect other immortals, there certainly hadn't been too many around at the time so she would have been out of practice anyway.
The question made her narrow her eyes in thought for a moment. "I don't know. Do you? I can't recall ever making your acquaintance," she answered finally.
