Iris had needed his arms around her, had needed to hear that he loved her. She had needed this reassurance before they could talk and have a chance at fixing things. It didn’t stop her tears, but it was a start. She believed him when she looked into his eyes. Those eyes……she loved those eyes.
“I know…..I do know. I don’t stop you from leaving, Zephyrus, it’s just….” she found her grip on his shirt tightening as she tried to take advantage of actually having him with her…. “I miss you when you’re gone. It’s hard when I’m lonely and there’s no one to…..no one there.” Iris knew a lot of people, in their own pantheon and in others, as well. She had people she called friends, who she held dear, but there were few she was very close to. She was unwilling to let them in, to show them her vulnerable side.
She had just started to change that, had begun to think that maybe there was someone else she could let in, but now she knew she couldn’t. Even if she wanted to keep Pollux as a friend, a close one, she couldn’t put him in a position where Zephyrus would be suspicious of him. There was no way she could do that, just as there was no way she could end things with Zephyrus, stay apart from him. She always waited for him, always took him back………for the same reason that he was her husband in the first place. She loved him. No matter how angry she felt, or how many times they had done this, it didn’t change. It never changed.
