Iris flushed under his eyes, and wished she hadn’t. He was just looking at her. She wasn’t the sort of girl who got easily flustered, who lost her sense of balance over anyone. No….not over just anyone……. but her husband. Only Zephyrus.
He’d heard the fighting had stopped. He’d come back after things calmed down. What sort of timing was that? If he didn’t want to get involved, he didn’t have to. Boreas had been here, and had flat-out refused to have anything to do with it all. Iris could have pointed it out, but she wasn’t about to make this a fight over her brother-in-law. He had already made this more difficult than it had to be.
“Amends for being gone?” Iris asked softly. For being gone when she really needed him. It wasn’t that she sat around and cried when he was gone, it wasn’t that she relied on him to be her everything…..but there were times when only he would do. Not that he knew that. She had no way of getting hold of him when she wanted him, he couldn’t have known. He might have guessed, though. “I needed you when things weren’t calm.” Her voice was still soft. She wasn’t accusing him. She was simply telling him.
