It was very clear, as she spoke, that not only had they been at odds for years, but that they were entirely different. Or, if they weren’t, which he doubted, they at least had very different ways of putting things. This was no cultivated rivalry….this was theft. It was infuriating. He was about to say this when she mentioned Ares.
Triton’s choices were to acknowledge Ares’ involvement, or feign ignorance. He had not wanted Ares brought up at all, but now he was forced to mention him and try to move on, or risk further discussion of him if she happened to insist on explaining him. That would be a waste of time and effort, and it wasn’t as though Ares hadn’t already mentioned that Sato would have probably guessed already who had told Triton about everything.
“I don’t care who else was involved, friend, relative, or stranger, and I don’t wish to know anything about it. It’s you I am dealing with, it’s you who’s caused me trouble before. By last I mean that I never want to have to do this again. I don’t want anything else stolen from me. Unfortunately, due to your nature, I have to do this…….it obviously can’t be left in the hands of mortals.” Triton sat back calmly, looking steadily across the table at her. “As for what happens now, I’m sure you must have some idea….it is you who have stolen from me…..perhaps you could tell me what your reason is. If you have one.”
