He was really confused - if it had nothing to do with how they were treating her, why was she getting all worked up? He'd already told her that he knew what he was doing when he had gotten himself into these relationships and that he accepted that things were going to turn out this way.
Why was she so angry? Was she angry at Ares? Why was she angry at him? Did he do something wrong to her?

And she was right, in a way... she had exposed Hades for who he was. Hades had told Ares to his face that he meant nothing to him - he was just convenient; he was just a little boy so desperate to be wanted that he would have taken anything he could get, even if it was a modicum of Hades' attention and time.
