‘Stepping off the path’ was not something Triton was used to. As much as he would have been tempted to do so, and explore the beauty of these gardens, he would never have done such a thing. So, even with Amaterasu leading him, he hesitated a brief moment before following.
He watched his step, being careful not to disturb anything. He could not imagine what she was about to share.
When he saw it, when she told him what he was, Triton couldn’t move. Back when time was created. A living piece of what she had had, almost like a part of her……that was what Triton thought as he watched her hand press against it. It would be almost like showing her what he had kept with him since he had lived in the waters, like putting the conch he still treasured into her hands.
The only thing that saved him from speechlessness was the thought of what she might be thinking, what she might take his silence as. He had to say something, had to tell her at least some of how he appreciated this. Somehow. The truth would make a good start.
“Amaterasu…..I don’t know what to say. That……this is an incredible thing. It’s beautiful.”
