All the reasons she'd had for why seeing Triton was a very bad idea abruptly faded away as soon as he opened the door. Just the sense of his presence alone caused something to click in Athena's heart and she stepped into his open arms without hesitation, wrapping her own arms around him with a small cry.
It didn't matter that she was just making things worse for herself if she had to fight him later. It didn't matter that if she wasn't careful he may win information to his side's advantage. None of that mattered compared to the immense relief and joy she felt just being in his presence again. She clung to him for a moment and let all her worries and stratagems fade away and for one glorious moment just reveled in the sense of being loved and loving in return.
Then the Internet spoke. Athena laughed, a soft disbelieving sound, and buried her forehead in the crook of Triton's shoulder for a moment even as she subtly squeezed his arm in warning. It wouldn't do for Triton to accidentally kill the god he'd agreed to protect, the guilt would make him unbearable. And the Internet had no concept of what it was he was interrupting -- how could he? He was so very young.
Straightening up, Athena pulled away from her foster father's embrace. "They still make Polaroids?" she asked with a lightly teasing smile on her face as she turned to face the Internet. Pulling herself together, she locked some of the joy she felt away, keeping the intensity of her emotions from reflecting on her face as she recalled the other reason why she had come. She needed to train the Internet to use his power in combat... or else risk losing him, one way or another.
Her gaze flickered from Internet's face down and back up again in a thoroughly assessing glance. He was holding himself a little stiffly -- and physical combat would never be his strength. But there were more ways than one to incapacitate an opponent. They would practice that, she'd instruct him to run if necessary - surely he had access to anyplace in the country - and free him to leave if he desired, or continue to offer what protection she could. She hated to see the new gods caught up in a pointless ancient feud.
"You're looking well," she said with a polite smile before her grin broadened. Testing herself against the Internet, even as untrained as he was... there would be little reason to hold back for long, if she was right. She was looking forward to finding out. "Are you ready for this?"
