Who: Persephone and Iris What: Delivering a message When: Wednesday morning Where: Corollarium
Part of her hated to do it.
Not a large part of her, of course, but a part just the same. Iris couldn’t be absolutely certain (she’d had difficulty in reducing anything, no matter how trivial, to absolutes lately due to a particular conversation she’d had in a pub) but she could be fairly positive that Persephone would have been very happy to not see her walk into the shop. Iris didn’t believe it was anything personal. It was just her job - it couldn’t be helped. The phrase ‘shoot the messenger’ had been coined for a reason.
Persephone had hidden, had found a quiet place for herself among the mortals. Iris had had an incredibly difficult time tracking her down, and whenever that was the case, it was because the person didn’t want to be found. Iris didn’t want to spoil her refuge, didn’t want to announce to the world where Persephone was…..she just wanted to deliver a message. Do her job. When someone went into hiding, Iris rather thought that she should still be informed. No matter how reluctantly.
Iris finally found herself at the door at the shop, found herself close enough to feel the woman she was looking for. It hadn’t been easy….but it had not been impossible. Now that she was here, Iris didn’t hesitate. She pushed open the door and stepped inside, blinking a moment to adjust her eyes to the inside.
