What: Meeting with his wife and daughter

Eros waited for his wife and daughter just outside the front door of the pizzeria in the middle of the Bronx. It wasn't a place he would normally be but it was random and they wouldn't be found. He waited with his hands tucked into the pockets of his slightly baggy jeans, he was unusually dressed, too. His clothes were baggy fitted, jeans, sneakers, an oversized white t-shirt beneath his NorthFace jacket, a fitted Giants cap on his head.

As soon as Psyche saw him, it was as though a weight had been removed from her. Until now she had been walking as close to corners as possible, avoiding eye contact with everyone, trying to remain unseen. But when she saw him, she could no longer hold back -- she ran to him, not caring if everyone inside the pizzeria noticed. As soon as she was near enough, she embraced him with her right arm (her left kept a firm hold on her daughter, whom she hadn't left out of her sight for an instant).

There were too many things to do and not enough time to do everything; there was too much to be mindful of and only one mind to contain it all. Psyche had been, quite literally, consistently moving since she had received Wrath's message that morning, careful not to stay in one place for too long, or to be in any place that might seem predictable. She had finished her morning appointments at work; she had met with Sato (and managed to remain perfectly calm and polished); she had picked Heddy up from school slightly early; and in a few minutes, she would have to take the train back to the city and meet with Enola.

But that was not right now. Right now, there was only this. With him.

He took a few big steps towards them with a smile on his face, arms wrapping around Psyche's waist to hold her tight against his chest. He winced slightly but he would rather endure the pain of his shoulder, then the pain he knew he would have to endure if she left without him holding her as tight as possible. His arms held her for a moment, pressing a firm kiss to her lips. He released her but only to drop down and pick Heddy into his grasp, propping her up against his side.

His free arm [the one where the bullet tore through his shoulder] was used to wrap around her shoulders. "Let's walk." He said while heading up the street. "I don't understand why I can't know. Regardless of whether I know or not ... they won't find out, they won't care, they'll still press me to know."

She felt the wince; her eyes gazed up questioningly toward his. She stayed close to him as they walked, careful not to lean against his shoulder too much, lest she hurt him again.

Psyche spoke in low tones, not wanting Heddy to catch much of their conversation (which was not a particularly worrisome threat: Hedone rarely paid attention to anything besides her father when she was with him).

"I haven't told anyone, not your father, not Hera..." her voice trailed off. She sighed slightly then, knowing she was disappointing all of them, but knowing she didn't have a choice.

"It won't be for long," she promised, more out of pure optimism than anything else. "Just long enough for this current little earthquake to subside."

He cradled Hedone against his side, she toyed with the fur around the hoodie of his thick jacket ... she was just happy to be in her fathers arms. Her happiness radiated around them, a couple that was arguing in front of a corner stopped fighting and after a few whispers took a hold of each others hands and walked off. Although, Eros was upset about them leaving it seemed like she too had an affect on him. He was smiling, just because he was with them now.

His hand at Psyche's shoulder squeezed slightly as if to reassure her. "Fine. Can I come see you at some point? -- Who do I need to talk to about that? Who will know?"

"No one except the person sheltering us," Psyche answered, not meeting his gaze just then. "But I would like that very much, especially since..."

Especially since I've no idea how long I have to be away.

She didn't finish her sentence; instead, she looked up at him and their daughter with a sunny smile, reaching out to smooth Heddy's hair.

"But let's not worry about that, not now."

"Well, I'll make sure to keep our other secret well kept. Keeping them apart ... well, makes him safe." He gave her a small nod as if to reassure her again of their plan. "I'll be sure to pick him up from them as soon as I leave here and take him to where we discussed earlier."

She nodded back, unable to suppress the smallest hint of a smile. She didn't want to tear herself away, to leave this moment of tranquility, but she didn't need to glance at the time to know they had to start moving again.

"It's time," she said gently. There was more she could have added to that -- another promise from him to stay safe, to not do anything rash, to keep in touch...

Psyche moved forward, holding her arms out to embrace both her husband and her daughter at once, easing Heddy away from her father as she did so. Leaning forward, she kissed him quickly. Her apology was in her eyes, even if she did not say it aloud.

Nothing needed to be said. He nodded and turned to place a kiss to Hedone's temple, returning the kiss that Psyche gave him. He held the kiss for a moment before letting them both go.

He stepped back and watched for a moment from afar as she headed off with their daughter. Sighing deeply before pivoting to head out on his own mission.
