Psyche returned Enola's embrace with a tremendous sigh of relief, as though it took all of her strength to remain sitting as she had been. Now, with Enola before her, she felt the dizzying comfort that the half-drowned man at sea feels when the shore comes into view. At last. She moved back as Enola turned toward Hedone, feeling her heart warm from the other woman's kindness. Psyche's daughter was shy, as painfully shy as Psyche herself had been at that age. Still, Heddy managed to smile shyly at their new friend, and Psyche gave her daughter's hand an encouraging squeeze.
"Heddy," Psyche murmured, smiling. "Enola, this is Heddy."
