National Security's smile was a little on the side of bitter, as he listened to Iris. What the goddess said sounded familiar and foreign at the same time. Perhaps, the difference was the degree of involvement. She had family involved, individuals she cared about, whereas he, a concept, always sided with another, larger concept.
National Security was concerned about government and nation, not the president, senators, congressmen or people. They came and went but the concepts always remained the same.
Of course, he had personal preferences. For example, he preferred the GOP in power because it gave him more room to work. However, although the Democratic Party more often than not shackled him, it would never cross his mind to not support them and their ideals and beliefs when they were the ruling party - when he was weak, it meant that the nation was strong enough to take care of itself.
Their personal differences rarely touched him because Jamie wouldn't allow that kind of nonsense to affect him. He had enough crap to deal with already to care about the petty needs of the two parties and when they behaved like idiots, they were pretty much the same.
"Yeah. Sometimes it seems easier to flatten it all and raise something new," the new god took a sip of lager and put the glass on another napkin. "And sometimes everything fixes themselves out of the blue. Just like that." A small, mocking smile. "Or so I've heard. It could also be just a fairy tale. I'm not sure."
"If you need help flattening things, I know someone who's very good at doing that," Jamie added, jokingly of course.
