Horrible things had happened today. She was having a hard time still piecing things together, but mortals had died. And her friend felt responsible. And she couldn't be callous enough to say to him that sometimes, for the gods, it was how things were done. Her own people had had their violent moments, after all, her own pantheon had been vengeful and caused their own cataclysms. The old world moved that way at times. She, though, didn't, and it was as horrible to her as it had ever been but she didn't know how to comfort her friends about it.
Not that they'd needed her comfort. Not only had her hosts been gone most of the day, most of those she'd signed on to help care for had disappeared from Mari's home as well. She couldn't just sit in an empty kitchen, and she wasn't really loving the idea of going home. She remembered a flyer she'd seen after one of her classes, though, and decided that it would be a good night to just enjoy looking at things. There was a gallery with a new show on the Lower East Side. The flyer had said it was 'Aztec influenced modern art.' Flora hadn't known what that meant, but it was enough to get her attention.
The artist took artistic license a little too far, maybe. There was a painting of someone she assumed was meant to be Huixtocihuatl, but she was rising out of the sea like she was Aphrodite. She almost moved on, but then there was a statue of a serpent rising into clouds and she sighed, content, and sat down on a nearby bench to just stare at the depiction of Mixcoatl for a few minutes.
