Pent up energy. That's all this was. All this had to be. She was so used to going and going and going with no stop that this downtime was starting to get to her. She needed to be back home. She needed to be back with Tobias. Back with the Dauntless. Back in the fight against the Erudites and the man that used to be her brother. There are times she wonders whether Caleb knows or not that he was partially the reason their parents are dead. That she blames him and his stupidity and naivety in believing everything that the Erudites told him. She hates him. And it's that hate that drives her somewhat in trying to defeat them. Or... well... it was that hate that partially drove her. Now she's stuck here. No Tobias. No Dauntless. No war. Just... boredom. Straight up boredom. That was probably why she was out here now, running as fast as she could in the night and jumping fallen logs. The woods were a beautiful place to keep your skills up and the running was perfect for cardio. Trees jumped out of nowhere and she had to detour fast or slam into them. Tris Prior never slowed down. She'd speed up if she could but she never slowed down. Even now... dripping with sweat and with no idea where she was going, she didn't falter in her steps. If it came down to having to jump over something to keep from falling then that's what she did. She just. Kept. Running. And soon... soon she found herself right back at the mansion. She'd run in a complete circle. Even then she didn't stop running. She just seemed to start over. Starting over was okay. It was a fresh start to her. And though she continued to press on as fast as she could go, she knew the only thing it was solving was her energy levels. She'd run herself into exhaustion until she could think straight again and then, when she'd get all boggled, she'd just start the process over. It was that simple. |
