world 28 / adept world description. Please view this doc for more detailed information! Long ago, the ancient sages learned methods by which power could be channeled through crystals to bring life to constructs known as Devices. Devices took many forms: some were nearly intelligent, others performed simple automated function. Some crystals could be found in nature, others had to be distilled: only a chosen few possessed the natural gift to imbue crystals with the animating energy necessary to power a Device. These were the Adepts. Their arts were the key to the rise of the Great Powers, the five empires who now rule the world: Britain, France, Russia, Germany and Japan, and also of the USA (known the Great Neutral). Evenly matched in most respects, these Powers have since the last Great War been locked in an uneasy cold war, one that could explode into a conflagration at any moment. The most likely spark? Some unexpected development in the Artes Adeptorum. In the Great Game of Empire, it is the Adepts who hold the keys to victory or defeat... characters. PATIL, Padma PATIL, Parvati point of divergence. The first wizards uses crystals instead of wands to power their spells. As an indirect result of this, magical and scientific technology converge instead of splitting, witches and wizards never went into hiding and so there is no magic/muggle divide in this world. Contemporary technology (c. 2000) is steampunk-esque (no computers or tv or other advanced electronics, but most other “modern” inventions have a partially-magical equivalent). The world is split between quasi-Victorian empires that rely on Adepts to maintain their power. if this world has been visited in game, info: N/A. |
