Who: Merlin and Jane S. Potter
When:. 2 November
Where: The beach
What: What do teenagers do but have a beach party?
This must have been what a flip was. It was startling. But fascinating in its own way. Merlin had been out to the beach which was nothing like England's in brief yesterday for his bonfire, the charred remains of it still nested south of the quay, but he hadn't had time to really explore the area. He wished he could be a bird and do so. It'd be faster and more complete seeing everything from a higher perspective. Rather like prophecy versus lived experience. Merlin liked to get outside of his own perspective.
But he couldn't turn into a bird, not now anyway, and he could hardly turn his travelling companion into a bird. But he would get there, at least everyone else seemed to believe it. Every day, more and more seemed impossible than not, which likely meant it was all within some sort of reach.
Lady Jane had been upset, she had lost her mother, and many others had lost their kinsfolk. Merlin had no desire to see his kinsmen or mother here, but knew he was not typical in that. Back in Britain, his--no Arthur's--Britain, Merlin had a group of companions, though none tied by anything so alterable as blood. But he had promised to distract her, and while Merlin wasn't one who ever stopped thinking, did enjoy distraction. He had brought his bag, his camera, and his clarsach, He had worn one of the more familiar short hose omicron had given him and altered a shirt from the last world into a doublet of sorts, feeling too exposed otherwise.
But it was easy to forget when he was walking in the lapping tide. And the shirt had come off when he saw how Lady Jane had dressed.
