overview. All Taken, even those who were far out in the desert, will find themselves back on compound in their own rooms as soon as the countdown ends. All of the lights will be off for a few dramatic moments, and then they will come back on. When they do, the Taken will discover that the compound has an entirely new ambiance: it's gone quite festively spooky. Lights flicker every so often, shadows dart harmlessly along the walls, and things frequently seem to move right in the corner of your eye. Additionally, there are Halloween decorations everywhere; fake cobwebs with fake spiders hung artistically all over the compound, carved jack-o-lanterns twinkle in the common areas, and fake skeletons like to leap out, cackling, from corners where the Taken least expect them. Outside the compound doors, it's a dark and stormy night. In fact, every night in this world is dark and stormy, complete with thunder and lightning and heavy rain. The storm stops during the daytime, leaving the sky grey and overcast and the grass damp but not too muddy. The trees are all decked out in the fall colors of red, orange, and yellow, and many of their leaves have fallen to the ground. There are the usual critters and insects expected for this kind of environment, except that the only kind of birds present are large, rather ominous ravens whose croaks sound quite like the word 'nevermore'. To the left of the compound doors is a large cemetery surrounded by a low white picket fence, and off to the right (visible from the doors, but actually about a half-hour's walk away) is a very haunted looking house sitting atop a grassy knoll. Despite its creepy, creaky ambiance, most of the house is empty, except for the shelves full of jars of what look like pickled body parts, but Dr. Upsilon has set up a 'mad scientist' laboratory in the basement and will tell anyone who visits about how she is doing experiments to honor the memory of the mad scientist who used to live there. She will also warn them that the ghost of the scientist stalks through his old house every night, trying to find people to do his experiments on. Anyone who dares to venture back at night to check out whether this story is true will find that they can hear the sound of footsteps and may catch just the briefest glimpse of what might be the scientists' ghost out of the corner of their eye, but will never actually see what he looks like and will not be harmed by him. In fact the most dangerous thing in the house is the rotted wood areas in the floorboards and the stairs, which are visibly darker than the rest during the day but are difficult to see after dark. Taken may also want to take care not to walk straight into any of the near-invisible cobwebs hanging in the house, which do not actually hold spiders but which are incredibly distressing and uncomfortable to have all over your face nonetheless. Anyone who enters the cemetery will find that the vast majority of the headstones are unmarked, or marked only with crosses and other simple designs. However, there is an interesting charm on some of them: a Taken who is looking for or expecting to see any headstones in particular may be able to find them amongst the unmarked graves. These can be lost loved ones from back home, the graves of anyone whose deaths they've heard about since arriving at the compound, or even (for those who have been here long enough to remember Salem World) those who have died on compound. The charm is unique to the individual-- thus, one Taken may find the grave of their deceased parents but another person passing by would see it as unmarked. Of course, if they are told a grave is out there and they go out to look for it-- well, then there is a good chance they will find what they're looking for. time & events. It's the fall season, and quite obviously nearing Halloween. Surprise surprise, the theme of the world actually lines up with the dates on the calendar this time! NOTE: the full moon in this world will be on October 29th. info the taken are given. υ Upsilon: There will be an unlimited candy supply in the LABORATORY OF MAD SCIENCE! Also, all the bandages that she uses in this world will look bloody on the outside but actually be perfectly sterile. ε Epsilon: The traditional morning wake up alarm is replaced by a classic halloween sounding scream, with the exception of James Potterthg who will continue having his traditional music increase arrangement. Doors in Epsilon Block all seem to creak now, when they never did before. When Taken first wake on the 12th, they will find they have cobweb covered candle holders in their units, which barely light any of the rooms, and all electrical lights have ceased to function. Charms to try and increase the intensity of the flame on the candles will not work. At 9:30pm, it will be like a gust of wind has blown through the block, and the flame will be extinquished as such (and will erupt into flame come 5:30am). Cobwebs and dust seem to cover the majority of the Unit now. The projector, notably, is up and ready to be run. All film reels have disappeared, however, and it seems as though it is set up for use when Epsilon wishes. The Block is more chilly than usual and to compensate for this Taken are given extra blankets both in their units and in the common area. As for apparel, Taken are given several gray jumpers, cardigans, and vests for the flip; along with jeans and waterproof boots. Scarves, mittens, and wool hats have also been added to their wardrobes, along with one rain coat each. The music that normally plays in the block will shift in theme and mood. Instead of opera and classical, Taken will hear a variety of scores from classic horror films, such as Suspiria, Psycho, Jaws, The Invisible Man, The Exorcist, etc. γ Gamma: Gammas do not receive any clothing, as all of their black and red from previous worlds is still applicable. They will notice that the walls in the common area have been covered by bookshelves and filled with an assortment of books in the Halloween theme. Roughy half are fiction, but there are a great number of 'true' books as well on subjects like haunting and exorcism. ο Omicron: While Dr. Omicron claimed that accio Omicrons wasn’t working – he had a hitch in his giddyup – all Omicron Taken will have found themselves crouched in Pie Block with an orange hat and a brown paper bag tucked under their arm when the countdown reached 30 seconds. Inside the paper bag would have been a pair of 3-d glasses, a bag of unpopped popcorn, glowsticks, and a large bag of their favorite candy. He hopes they had a fun time at the party! After the flip, all Taken will find a sign reading “Closed for renovations. Do not enter.” stuck on the front door of Omicron block. Any passerby will hear sounds of creaking boards, chainsaws, and screams coming from behind the door, and the knob will rattle and the door will buckle as if someone is trying to get out. If an Omicron taken will find the courage inside to reach and open the door, they will find themselves allowed inside the block. However, they will not be able to tell anyone that the block is in fact open – they have to enter on their own accord! If they are with another Taken when they enter, the other Taken will suddenly be compelled to go retrieve something from the gardens the moment the Omicron decides to try the knob. This applies to both Omicrons and others. Should they choose to tell by any means – writing, speaking, sign language, using gobbledygook and any other language, charades, etc – they will find that they will speak by “key board smash” and the translator will be broken. This rule does not apply to Omegas. They will be able to translate the smash and can see people disappearing into Omicron block. However, they too won’t be able to tell anyone about the entry. Omicron’s serious about this, y’all! Note, visitors are welcome! In order to bring someone through, the Taken will have to quote any part of the "Double, double toil and trouble" scene and remain touching the Omicron in some way to get into the block. Information regarding this will be available should you ask Dr. Omicron yourself. Once inside, the Taken will see that Dr. Omicron was busy when his summoning charm wasn’t working. The navy walls have been replaced by screens similar to the ones that are in the Taken’s bedroom, and every even hour the scenes will change. Some scenes include the interior of a haunted house, Halloweentown, The Nightmare Before Christmas, the inside of a pumpkin, a graveyard, etc. Make sure you put on your 3-D glasses Omicron gave you so you can step through the screens and explore! At the end of the scene the Taken will find themselves safely back in the middle of the commons and able to talk about their adventure in the movies. Cobwebs litter the area, the lights flicker randomly, and a fine coat of dust has settled over the assorted odds and ends scattered around the room. The moose and the mannequin have disappeared, replaced by a talking head in an orb (a la Madame Leota from Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride) and a black raven that flaps around the room that all Omicons can talk to. These changes also apply to the taken’s bedrooms, and, like always, they are allowed as many pillows and blankets as they want. An orange door has appeared on the opposite side of Dr. Omicron’s 00Z. Behind this door is a pumpkin patch, and Taken are encouraged to go through and pick out a pumpkin of their liking. They can choose up to 3 per person per day, and they can do whatever they want with them! They can boil ‘em, mash ‘em, or stick ‘em in a stew if they’d like. They are charmed against decomposing, so no need to worry about saving them for the next day. Clothing is as follows: each are issued a pair of jeans, an assortment of jumpers and turtlenecks to keep warm in the lower temperatures, one of these beauties, a bag for collecting candy, and a pair of boots in their style of choice. Omegas are given these sweaters and a pair of matching gloves. A trunk has appeared in each unit with a small talking skeleton sitting on it informing them to open it. It will not stop talking until the inhabitant opens the trunk as expected. Inside are copious amounts of pieces to create their own costume, and like Mary Poppins’s bag, it doesn’t seem to have a bottom and they can keep finding anything and everything until they are satisfied. π Pi(e): Important to note. For the entirety of this world (or until pie gets bored of it), all pie taken will see themselves looking like they just stepped out of a Tim Burton movie every time they look in any reflective surfaces. Mirrors, spoons, glares on windows, everything. They also see it when they simply look down at their bodies. They will see each other this way, too. Anyone outside of pie Block will only see them as they look normally. As far as clothing goes, all pie Taken will receive black skinny jeans, an orange tshirt, halloween themed suspenders and tie and orange converse. Girls who prefer something pretty also have the option of this in inverse (orange dress, purple belt). Everyone also gets a pumpkin-shaped trick-or-treating basket filled with the following books: Frankenstein, Dracula, Zombie Survival Guide, The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, a book on Halloween tricks (not treats) and a few assorted Wizarding classics suitable for the season (because Kit doesn't feel creative enough to come up with titles at the moment). Just like in Tau block, there is a message written in the dry-erase marker on a board on everyone's closet doors, instructing them to write down a costume request just below it (with newly provided black and orange dry-erase markers). Once they finish writing, they will find that the costume has appeared in their closet. Each costume will disappear immediately after they take it off for the night, but they can request another costume again the next day (and they can request the same costume over and over again, if they so choose). In the common areas, there will be mounds of Halloween candy and pumpkin goodies (dominated by the presence of pumpkin pasties). The atmosphere of the 'tavern' will reflect that of the rest of the Halloween-themed compound and, if you stay up past 1am, you'll probably chance upon Captain Haggard, the ambiguously ghostly pirate at the bar. Careful about talking to him, though. If you start, you won't be able to leave until he's quite done recanting the 'good ole days'. Halloween movies will be playing in the common area at all times (but the noise cannot be heard from the Taken's units at night). In fact, the Taken will find that, for the duration of this world, the units are soundproofed. At five in the evening, all windows will be shut up and 'blacked-out', unable to be seen through. Have fun, pie Taken ;D τ Tau: In addition to the compound-wide changes, all lightbulbs in Tau Block have replaced with fixtures holding candles, which provide enough light for reading by but flicker even more than usual. Her block is overall its same cold temperature, but there will be 'cold spots' in random places -- suddenly, her Taken will find that even if the fire is lit, they will be very cold and able to see their breath in the air. This effect will only last a few moments before going away, and will not happen to any particular person more than once every day. Additionally, the movie collection in the common area has been supplemented with a wide variety of scary movies of the psychological or serial killer thriller variety. There will also be books full of scary stories about, the sort you might tell around a campfire (or around the fireplace inside the block). Her bar is serving only Halloween themed drinks and snacks and candy-- everything from plain old chocolate bars to candy eyeballs and gummy 'brains'. For clothing, Taus are provided with jeans, orange and black t-shirts, black rainboots and a black rain jacket and rain pant set for nighttime exploration. In the interest of encouraging said nighttime explorations, she has provided hands of glory for each of her Taken, charmed waterproof so that they can be used in the rain. Lastly, there is a message written in the bronze marker on everyone's closet doors, instructing them to write down a costume request just below it (with the markers/paints that are always in Tau block). Once they finish writing, they will find that the costume has appeared in their closet. Each costume will disappear immediately after they take it off for the night, but they can request another costume again the next day (and they can request the same costume over and over again, if they so choose). ζ Zeta: All Zeta taken will find themselves in their bedrooms at the time of the flip. Their rooms are cast in flickering candlelight, the shadows seem thicker. A candle will be floating in front of their wardrobe, where written in red it reads, 'knock, knock.' Those brave enough to knock will see on the inside of their wardrobes their ideal Halloween costume, and as long as they wear it, everything around them will follow the same theme as their costume, if not in a slightly more Disney way. Vampire? You'll find blood to drink in your room, daylight will sincerely piss you off, and good lord, you can do quite an impression of the Count! Werewolf? Try out your new ability to howl at the moon! Every day, Zetas will get a new costume, and they will never get the same one twice. There's a lot of Halloween games and sweets in the common area, but if Zeta taken knock on Zeta's door and say trick or treat, they'll get something extra special. Also, to make Zeta block seem even more like Hogwarts, ghosts now float through the block. Some are familiar from Hogwarts, others not at all. Ask them what you want to know about the Compound, but they'll take glee in telling lies. |
