The last full moon had been amazing, getting the run of the Forbidden Forest again. For most of the other wolves and animagi, this was probably a downgrade, but James was beyond ecstatic for the night's adventure. His excitement had nothing to do with their location, but with the simple fact that Sirius-- his Sirius, his Padfoot-- was able to come with them again.
It had been years for all of them since that happened, and worse still, years since Sirius had even been able to transform. This full felt like it marked an end of all their hard work to find Sirius and bring him back to them-- and now they were reaping the rewards.
Which of course meant that James was even more exhausted than usual by the time they all collapsed for the night, but so happy that he didn't care. He curled up with his Sirius and Remus and fell asleep, utterly content with the world.
When he woke to the feeling of Sirius shifting against him, he had no concept of what time it was or how long he had slept, but he felt rested. He blinked and reached around for his glasses, but didn't come up with them; regardless, he could tell that Sirius was awake. Easily distracted from his search for his glasses, he hugged Sirius's head and kissed his best mate's mussed hair, grinning drowsily from ear to ear. Quietly, so as not to wake the others, he said, "Welcome back to the wolfpack, Padfoot."
