Who: James, Rodolphus, && Sirius (knap)
What: confrontation! And PADFOOT.
When: Saturday evening.
Where: out on the grounds
Warnings: (vague) mentions of torture, use of derogatory slurs, AKA RODOLPHUS BEING A DICK.
James had invited Sirius out for drinks in the Forest, as they'd once done. There was a while to go yet before they were supposed to meet, but it was such a nice night that he'd headed out early. He stood on the steps outside the Hogwarts doors for a while, looking out at the grounds. They probably weren't going to be here for much longer, so he wanted to soak up as much of Hogwarts as he could; even if the tournament was not terribly pleasant, he still loved this school with all of his heart. It reminded him of the end of his seventh year, when he'd been loath to leave-- he'd known, then, that everything was going to change. Not for the worse, but nothing would ever be quite the same.
And Merlin, had he ever been right. He'd been different then, young and hopeful and certain of how his future was going to go; he'd been much more of a homebody, hadn't really thought much of traveling beyond the borders of his home country. And now...
Well, he felt like that James again, in a lot of ways. Harry had kept him young, despite everything he'd been through, and now that his family was whole again, he didn't feel nearly so old and jaded. His future back home was going to be difficult, but there was a light at the end of the tunnel. There was a lot of difficulty still to come even here, probably, but James was going to be alright as long as his family was here. He felt certain of that, at least.
He moved down the steps and turned around to look back up at the castle, smiling at the sight of it all lit up against the sky that was just starting to darken. But his gaze lowered when he caught sight of someone moving towards him, and his smile faded when he saw who it was, jaw tightening. He hadn't confronted Lestrange in person yet, but it was bound to happen at some point; nevertheless, he wasn't going to be the one to start the conversation. He wasn't worried for himself, but he hoped the bastard wasn't going to stick around to try and ruin Sirius's night.
