It was not so often that Gamma found himself in a circumstance that left him unsure of how to proceed, but the situation with Sirius Black had certainly qualified. His general fondness for the man mirrored that which he held for all of his Taken, but there was the obvious extra bit of tension that had been brought on by Black’s infatuation. At first, he’d been quite oblivious to it. Even once he was aware of its existence, he had easily shrugged it off as the same sort of thing he’d experienced many times before from students in his classes. But then it had become something far more, to the point that he’d had to quite firmly put into words the situation as it logically stood.
And then there had been silence, and he’d been unsure of how to proceed. So he’d waited. He hadn’t looked up immediately when the door had opened, finishing a bit of grading before he did so. Spotting Sirius, he offered a nod in response, sitting back in his chair to offer his attention. “Mr. Black,” he responded, his tone easy, albeit curious. “What can I do for you?”
