"Car crash," James said, as gently as he could. It was breaking his heart to see her go through this all over again, but it had to hurt her even more. He held her close, holding tightly to her free hand. He'd wanted to give her a good memory, but even the good memories came with difficult topics, it seemed. They couldn't seem to get away from the bad entirely.
"It was right when we started... well, having breakfast together," he said with a slight smile, pressing a kiss to her temple. "The first time you kissed me was when you came back from his funeral. And you were always close to him, Lily. I was so angry when I found out the Lestranges had told you that your parents had cut you off, because they didn't, they never did. Your parents always loved you."
That was some comfort, he hoped. It had to be terrible to find out that they were dead-- and she didn't even know about her mother yet.
