Who: RemusUnwind and JamesKnap
What: Morning after the moon
When: Saturday morning
Where: Grounds
Warnings: None

Remus had expected to wake up next to Sirius, because that was where he normally woke up on the morning after a full moon. He had vague memories of running on Hogwarts grounds the night before -- something he hadn't experienced in years, and had sent the blood thrumming through Moony's veins once again, eager for what the night would bring. And it had certainly been strange, because he'd run with versions of himself. He'd so infrequently been around wolves. But there had also been Prongs -- which was why it wasn't exactly a surprise when he looked up and saw that he was curled up next to one, but it was.

He couldn't help but smile implicitly, because it had been so long since he had seen his own James. He knew that this couldn't his James, but -- all the same. He knew that it had always been difficult on Sirius to leave James behind, and he'd tried to deal with it the best that he could, but that didn't meant that he didn't miss James and Lily just as much.

In any case, seeing him, Remus was in no hurry to get up. His muscles were all sore from the strain of the transformation and from how much running he had done last night. He was content to get comfortable again, figuring that there would be plenty of time to find his Sirius again. Although, he supposed he ought to be concerned that the Padfeet had all ended up in a puppy pile somewhere.

Full moons on the compound were a madhouse. James loved every second of it, loved running alongside multiple Moonywolves, multiple Padfeet, multiple Prongses (and a Curvy). He did try to keep track of his own Moony, and managed for most of the night, but was distracted by one of the Padfeet; it hardly mattered anyway, the wolves were all under Wolfsbane and they were all looking out for each other.

When the moon set, he was both wired and exhausted, and transformed back to human as the wolves did as well, falling asleep on a soft patch of grass next to something Moonyshaped. He woke up hours later, blinking at the light on his face, and turned his head.

"Hey," he said, stretching out a hand to tousle Remus hair. It wasn't his Remus, but it hardly mattered; he adored them all. "Alright there, Moony?"

"Hey," Remus answered easily in return. "I'm good," he said with a wide grin, looking up at James as soon as he was done mussing his hair. (As if it mattered, with all the dirt and leaves that were in it right now.) "You?"

He rarely got to take Wolfsbane when he was from. They made it when they could, but it was complicated, and they rarely had all the ingredients readily available in the camp. Dumbledore did his best -- but there were strings that even he could draw only so often. There were other ways they contended with it; everyone in the camp knew what he was. Sirius was always with him on the full. Sometimes he had to be locked up or chained up, and that was just the way it was. But this was so much better, having something close to a pack -- his pack, with him.

He didn't know the James that he was currently curled up with, but then he hadn't known hardly any of the other Marauders that were around the compound. There were so many of them that he still had a long way to get to know before he got to know them well.

"Really good," James said, stretching. He gave a slight groan at the soreness of his muscles, but it was a good ache; the same one he always felt, because the strain on his body was always harder than it was on Prongs. "Whatever else I might say about this place...full moons here are brilliant."

He really didn't have a huge problem with this compound, in truth; he still preferred being here where his family was whole than go back and have to search for practically another decade before going through all of this again. Even with Lestrange here, even with the scientists messing with them, it was still an improvement.

Looking at the Remus next to him, he tried to remember whether he'd met this version yet. "Which world are you from, again?"

"So like a James Potter not to remember in the morning," Remus couldn't help but cheekily respond, still grinning at James. "I'm from Unwind. You?"

He had to agree that full moons here were definitely a lot better. There was really nothing not to like. It was safe in any way that being a werewolf could be safe, and there were plenty of friends around, which also made it fun. He also had the benefit of remembering more of the night with Wolfsbane than he did when he had just Moony to rely on.

"Oi," James said, laughing. "You don't remember me, either. I'm Party James. The one your Sirius tricked when I was five."

Unwind world, that was the one with the harvesting camps, or something. Really, the main thing he remembered about Unwind Sirius was the way he'd convinced James he was going to grow up to marry Severin Snape.

Shifting, he rested his head on Remus's shoulder. "Not that the worlds even matter, really."

"That James," Remus said with a rather large and amused smile. It was hard to forget the 5-year-old James that had been so vocal on the journals -- first acting so defensive for Sirius, and than later deciding that a Moony could also be a brother. Oddly enough, it had been everything that he'd missed about his own James.

"They clearly don't," Remus said easily, resting his cheek against the top of James' head and relaxing back against the ground. It was nice to know that, no matter what world they were in, they were all friends. He knew that a lot of terrible things happened to them, all of them, in a lot of the worlds, but their friendship lasted through so much. It was enough that he knew exactly what this James meant -- he wasn't his James, so to say. But they knew each other already. They were Moony and Prongs.

James burst out laughing at Remus's reaction to him. "Oh, that's good, that is," he said. "When you can say 'that James' and everyone knows who you're talking about, I'll know I'm doing it right."

It was true that he was the loudest and most vocal of the versions of him, so far as he could tell, though Jane and a few of the others did occasionally make some noise. Well, he wasn't Party James for nothing. "Only thing better than one set of Marauders is more than one set, yeah?"

"There weren't many five-year-old James running around proclaiming their brotherly love for all of the Sirius Blacks in the compound," Remus answered with a wry smile. "It was adorable, but I felt for your poor mother. You must have been quite a handful. Thank Merlin you and Sirius were never able to combine powers at that age."

"Do we have a complete set?" Remus asked, glancing up at James. It was difficult to keep track of who all was here. He knew that there a couple of Remuses -- obviously, from last night. But he hadn't gotten the chance to interact with any of them. The James and Siriuses had been quite loud when they were deaged, but he hadn't seen anything of Peter.
