Who: Sirilla s & Sirius (knap)
What: Potter Cat playtimes
When: Thursday night.
Where: Sirius' room.
Warnings: Potter Cat.

It wasn't that Sirius wanted to scare the cat off entirely. It was kind of nice to have some kind of connection to the life that he didn't really remember -- especially one that remembered him and was so blatantly unaware that anything was wrong. The thing clearly loved him. It had climbed up onto the bed with him once it had found him and hadn't left him alone since. It started purring if Sirius even so much looked at it. He was even starting to have rather one-sided conversations with it. Sanity, indeed.

But he really didn't care for the thing sitting on his head when he was trying to sleep. He woke up with a load of cat fur up his nose. And it was really uncomfortable. He didn't mind having a friend. He could lose the shadow.

So when Sirilla had suggested that Potter Cat might be introduced to Padfoot -- well, Sirius couldn't really argue with that idea. Potter Cat had probably met Padfoot before, but unfortunately for Sirius, he was a bit lacking in the Padfoot department at the moment.

Sirilla had a very uncomplicated relationship with cats. She was a dog, therefore she was their natural predator, or at least naturally inclined to chase them. In theory, she had gotten more fond of cats ever since she'd found out about [Peter] going into hiding as a rat after she'd stabbed them all in the back; no cat had managed to kill the bitch any more than she had, obviously, but she could hope that the collective felines in England had harassed the rat traitor on behalf of everything that was good and right.

But she still had plenty of practice with chasing cats, which was ridiculously fun, even if it had earned her a few scratches. And she knew that King Padfoot couldn't actually turn into Padfoot, which was the most helpful way to scare off a cat that there was; obviously, he needed another Padfoot to step in and help him. And as his queen, she was more than willing to help him.

She had already spent a night in Gryffindor with him, so she had the password; she opened the dormitory door and found the king and the cat waiting for her. "Oh, yeah," she said, eying the feline. "He does look like the clingy type. But I can take care of that."

With the ease of long practice, she transformed and fixed her doggy eyes on the cat, giving a challenging bark.

Sirius laughed when Sirilla arrived. Potter Cat seemed to glance over at her in a bored fashion. The moment that Sirilla shifted, Potter Cat moved as well. He ambled over and plopped down in Sirius' lap once again, taking up as much room as had to be possible for a cat. And then he began to make a sound that seemed distinctly like a growl, and only grew louder when Sirilla barked.

Sirius blinked. Because Potter Cat didn't seem at all scared of Padfoot. If anything, he seemed merely irritated. And like he wasn't planning on giving up Sirius' lap anytime soon.

Sirilla had met stubborn cats before, cats who'd tried to intimidate her or scratch her, but this one didn't seem to be scared of her at all. Sirius's lap was an unfortunate spot for him to be, too, because she couldn't lunge without also lunging at Sirius. Instead, she bared her teeth and gave a low growl, moving threateningly closer.

She only got a swipe for her efforts, which she ducked away from, and barked. The difficulty was that she didn't actually want to hurt the cat, but the cat did not seem to have the same problem.

After being stuck in this stalemate for a little while, she transformed back, and raised a hand to rub at her cheek, where the cat had gotten a little scrape in with one of its claws. "Clingy," she said. "Little bugger's like madly in love with you, or something."

"Yeah, I've noticed that," Sirius said, glancing down at Potter Cat. He couldn't help but scratch the damn cat's head. The cat closed its eyes for a moment, and Sirius could feel it begin to purr the moment that Sirius touched it. Sirius rolled his eyes. So, Padfoot scaring tactics were a no-go.

"You all right?" Sirius asked, nodding toward her cheek when he saw her put a hand up against it. He wasn't entirely certain how good Potter Cat had managed to scratch her.

"Oh, I'm good," Sirilla said, shrugging it off. "Moonywolf's done worse. But you've still got your feline stalker." She moved to sit down on the bed next to him, ignoring the fact that one of the cat's eyes opened to peek threateningly at her, and its purrs got lower. "D'you think it's met Padfoot before?"

Now that she was looking at Sirius and not the cat, she thought that he seemed a little better than the last time she'd seen him, despite his cat problem. She wasn't sure what it was; relaxed didn't make any sense with Lestrange wandering around, but on the other hand, he'd been bantering fairly normally with his boy-Jane, so maybe it was. Instead of asking about it, she observed teasingly, "I dunno, I think kitty love suits you."

"James said it knew me from before, so I suppose it has," Sirius said idly, shrugging a bit. He too noticed that it eyeballed up Sirilla as she sat down next to him. Which didn't make any damn sense to him at all, because she was him in a sense. It was a shame that he couldn't get it to be attached to another Sirius for some amount of time.

"You think we'll settle down and have beautiful pupkittens together?" Sirius teased, glancing up at her with a grin.

"I don't think you have any choice in the matter," Sirilla said, smirking a bit. "I bet he loves your Padfoot."

She held out her hand to the cat to sniff (which she wasn't even sure people were supposed to do with cats, but it worked for dogs) but only got a hiss for her efforts. "I'm not going to be happy if this means we can't have king and queen sleepovers anymore."

"We'll have to let him down gently when we let him know that there is no more Padfoot," Sirius said, covering Potter Cat's ears as he told Sirilla. He grinned a bit as he said it -- it was easier to talk about now, he found. The idea of it was still upsetting, but it was something he had come to terms with. He half-wanted to ask CiCi or Fleur if they knew if he was ever able to turn into Padfoot again, but he didn't know he'd handle it if the answer was no.

"I think he'll be fine as long as you don't threaten his ability to sleep on my face," Sirius commented.

Now she was sure that something had improved, because when he'd told Sirilla that he couldn't transform into Padfoot before, he'd been sad and tense about it. Now he was grinning. "I don't want to sleep on your face," she said, shrugging. "I just want your cuddly body."

Grinning, she added, "Speaking of your face, I might need a new nickname for you if you're not going to be looking all seriousface, Siriusface."

"I have been told that it is rather good for the purpose of cuddling," Sirius remarked, still smiling faintly. He was also still petting Potter Cat, although he wasn't thinking about it any longer. The beast was purring loudly in his lap once more.

"Oh?" Sirius asked, and he sounded genuinely surprised at the prospect. He supposed it had to be true -- things weren't as bad as they had been since he had arrived. But it still seemed like everything was a tangled web of complications more often than he was happy.

"We're the cuddliest of them all," Sirilla said. She nodded at the cat. "Just ask your friend Sir Pussycat there. He can't resist your cuddle magnetism."

Tilting her head, she considered him, slightly amused by his surprise. "Well, yeah. You're more smiley than I've seen you yet. I mean, compared to the way you were when you showed up here, you're like one of those happy clowns with the huge painted on grins stuffed with cotton candy and rainbows." Which was especially impressive considering one of the Lestranges was here from his world. "You're not high, are you? Cause if you are, I want some of what you've been smoking."
