Who: Lily Snape and Rodolphus Lestrange
What: An encounter!
When: August 29, evening
Where: The dungeons by the Potions Labs
Why: CHAOS?

Patrol was patrol. Lily had done it for years without any real incidents - alright that wasn't true. There had always been incidents, mostly caused by the Marauders. But on the whole there had never been any dangerous incidents. No giant bugs set loose in the castle, nothing that would require a school wide emergency to be called... well... Not really. Still, patrol was patrol, and Lily knew full well when she was actually patrolling and when she was just wandering. And right now she was wandering.

It was similar to what she'd been chastising James for only two nights earlier except that in this case she had clearance to be out of her dorms at this time. But where she was... that was a different story entirely. She'd left to do her rounds, but her feet had led back to a familiar set of stairs off the Great Hall. The stairs that led down to the Potions dungeons. In the few days since their arrival, Lily had yet to make a visit. She hadn't been sure she wanted to, not at first. But now, with everything seemingly unsettled, it seemed the only place that she wanted to go.

It was so familiar. The carvings in the stone of the wall, the way the middle steps were slightly angled. They were small things. Things you didn't necessarily notice unless you'd spent years cataloging them all in your head. And still, she wasn't entirely where she was supposed to be, this area being far from the area of her appointed rounds. And she didn't care. Ever since the arrival of Rodolphus Lestrange the tension level just kept rising. No one was in a good state, despite what they said. When they'd arrived she'd been certain that this would be one of the easy worlds. But it seemed as it continued that it was going to be a challenge. Not like the scientists would ever make anything easy. She wasn't a Slytherin, but for years this had been home. This place, these labs. She wasn't certain if being here was harder or comforting... and she had to think that she wasn't the only one wondering about it. If nothing else being here, she could get her mind sorted before she headed back upstairs.

...or so she thought.

Having had an interesting evening, Rodolphus was far too restless to stay in his room. In the Ravenclaw tower of all places. He supposed it was better than Gryffindor or Slytherin so he did not complain, but he would not stay. In a brisk and steady walk, he roamed the halls, familiarizing himself with the place they had all once called home. As much as he hated it, he liked it here, or the fond memories they gave him of Narcissa, his brother, and his friends. Before his engagement, before his godforsaken marriage, before his first killings, all the memories came flooding and it left a simple smile on the man's face.

His walk lead the deatheater down to the dungeons. The dungeons were all too familiar. For a moment, Rodolphus looked down into the room where he had shared a kiss with Narcissa, where they shared their secrets. Ironic enough, it was in the dungeons which was where those memories would stay.

Rodolphus frowned as he heard a shuffle coming from one of the potion rooms. He found it odd as he thought he was the only one down there. Were they down there? Were they going to ambush him after the run in with Sirius? His hand tightened around his wand as he moved closer towards the noise. It was only one person from what he could hear but he wasn't taking any chances. Taking out his wand slowly, he opened the door and stepped inside to see a redhead. Lily? He had never known her to be one to mess with potions, especially now. He knew James would never let her out of his sight.

So who was she?

"Lily?"

Rodolphus stepped inside and closed the door behind him, not lowering his wand.

Her wand was already out - the light in the dungeons had never been very good after dark. It was one of the flaws of the castle... but a dungeon as it was was supposed to be dark and gloomy. Although she spent a good deal of time here, she sometimes wondered how Aurora handled it, being the head of Slytherin as she was back home. She and Lily had spent a good amount of time together over the years, though she found it somewhat ironic that an Astronomy professor was in charge of a house that sat under ground level.

Lily heard her name and almost instinctively she turned slightly, the lit wand moving first, casting a light on a figure that was standing not far away. She couldn't see who it was at first. "Hm?" She turned the rest of her body, finally able to get a look at the person, and he looked familiar. The person who had caused this battle amid her family! She wasn't certain how to react to him.

He was closing the door. That meant that there was only one other potential way out. There was a passage in here but getting to it would be the issue. She decided to go neutral. At least at first. Her stance was solid, she stood up straight. "I thought I was the only one down here." She and Lily were both in Gryffindor this world, her prefect's badge was on her clothing. It had been necessary for patrol. She'd been up against worse than him before!

A hint of a smile touched the corner of his lips as she stood up straight. Merlin, they were all alike. Not wanting to seem weak or inferior to him, like he was something to be feared in a place he couldn't do a damn thing in. "So did I." He put his wand away, knowing he would do no harm to her just yet. She looked similar to his Lily, but different in a way he couldn't quite put his finger on.

"But since we're not..." Rodolphus stepped closer, wanting to know her reaction...if she feared him or something else. "Perhaps we should spend some time together?" There was a grin and it was neither nice or endearing.

His grin anything but friendly. This was Rodolphus Lestrange. She remembered him. Her version of him. The worlds were so different, but certain things about similar individuals remained. He wasn't trying to be charming.

He took a step towards her. She didn't know what sort of reaction he was looking for. Did he want her to flinch? To step back? She was a witch who had seen war. A few steps weren't going to make her flinch.

Lily stood her ground. Her face became serious. "Somehow I think that I'd be poor company tonight." There was an edge to those words. But she was not about to back down. "What are you doing out here this late, Rodolphus?" She used his first name. "A brew that couldn't wait until tomorrow morning, perhaps?" She tilted her head to the side, some of her hair falling over her shoulder, momentarily covering part of her face before she pushed it away. Clearly that wasn't the answer, but she was trying to get answers.

(ooc: Aim isnt working tonight! Technology has failed me!)

"Oh I highly doubt that, Lily." Rodolphus' grin grew more sinister as he approached rather quickly. "Your counterpart that I know was always good company." Rodolphus reached out and touched her hair, pushing her hand away. "I was walking through old memories. I think Hogwarts does that to most of us, don't you think?" Rodolphus knew he was uncomfortably close to Lily's liking and he didn't give a shit. If he couldn't hurt anyone, he didn't mind freaking people out.

Rodolphus leaned in and smelled her hair, grinning. "You both smell alike. I wonder..." His hand trailed down from the side of her head, down her shoulder, her arm, all the way down to her hand where he grabbed it. "I wonder if you both truly look alike. Naturally...you wouldn't have the same scars..but still..." He looked her up and down slowly, wanting to feel how uncomfortable she was.

The way he was talking about her younger self left her with a cold shiver running down her back. She hadn't gotten any real details about what had happened during the period with her false memories. It was something she hoped they'd get to soon. Their talks had always to this point been about other things. But here and now? Bloody Lestranges. He pushed her hand away and she shot him a glare. He was quicker than she was and he had her hand in a moment.

Her glare intencified. "Oh I've quite a few," she countered. "Most of them gotten fighting the likes of you." She pulled her hand back and quickly glanced around them. The antiviolence rule were in effect. Her wand was still in her hand. Lily took a step back, intentionally, not showing to retreat, but to prepare. She was holding her wand at her side, her wandarm stiff, in a position where she could cast something. This was a battle of body language. "Thought I'd come down here and visit my old stomping ground but my trip is being marred by a rat." No. That was an insult to Peter. She should have used another creature.

Rodolphus merely laughed quietly. "Sweetheart, if you were fighting the likes of me, you would have been begging for your death." His smile was wide as he let her hand go to back away. Toying with them all was as much fun as inflicting the real pain. For a brief moment, he had wished Bellatrix was there to share his fun. She was awfully good at mind games, after all.

"She begged. Begged as her skin was sliced and the blood ran down her beautiful white skin. Much like yours actually." Rodolphus began to chuckle more. "A rat? It was because of a rat, that we were successful in the plan." In two swift steps, Rodolphus invaded Lily's personal space, pressing against her ear, his hot breath rolling down her neck. "You can't even imagine of the things I am capable of. Now go." He took a step back and raised his arm outwards as if for her to exit.

"You're lucky you don't have to endure what is to come to her."

On the other side of the equation, Lily was very glad that Bellatrix wasn't here anymore. The two of them together, protections in place or not would have been a disaster. There was no way that any of them would have been able to restrain themselves. Even now as he was smiling at her her only thoughts were how she could disembowl him without getting caught!

"Not all rats are the same," she spat. And then he was pressing against her ear and she closed her eyes. She would NOT react. The descriptions he was giving her if he'd done that to Lily then death was too good for him! She got stock still but her hand was shaking with anger at hearing it.

He bid her to leave and she stood there defiantly for a moment. "And you'll be very lucky to survive this place. You're never leaving. Alive or dead." She looked him square in the eye. Her will vs. His. She was not about to let him do anymore. And she was going to do what she could to protect those she loved! "And that's a promise!"
