Who: Harry and GinnyTHG
What: Hanging out
When: Sunday
Where: Treehouse #4

Harry still wasn't used to all of the compound's antics. He never really had time to get used to it. The moment he actually started to understand what was going on he had been taken back several years and thrust into a new place again. Now that he had gone through the motions of understanding the compound twice, he felt like he should have been more used to it but it still hadn't sunken in yet.

He had avoided the world they flipped to at sixteen because he had no interest in walking around a playground with children running rampant without any real chaperones but now with things mostly righted he found he wasn't nearly as frightened as he once had been. He found himself at the bottom of Treehouse 4, staring up at the rope.

The last time Harry climbed a tree had been in the arena but he didn't have the luxury of hiding under a wooden roof. He pursed his lips but did not want to dwell on the past and climbed the tree, his body automatically going through the motions he had once known so well.

Ginny had spent most of her day sitting in this very tree house. She'd missed most of the meals, aside from grabbing breakfast on her way out. She was used to not eating, though. Where she came from, food was scarce. Harry understood that. Harry understood a lot of things that other people didn't, which was exactly why the two had bonded. They'd shared so much pain. So much heartache, misery.

But none of that compared to the pain she'd been enduring all day. For a few sweet days, she spent her time blissfully ignorant to what her life had become. To the fact that she was one of four remaining members of what was once a nine person family. Mum, Bill, Fred, George, Ron ...

But then, just as quick as it'd come, it was gone again. And it was like losing those she cared about the most, all over. She'd spent most of the day in tears, cursing everything and everything, wishing that she could just forget everything. But once Harry said he'd be over, she forced herself to stop. She needed to be strong in front of him. She'd already cried in front of him too many times, and she refused to let him see that she was still just a terrified little girl.

By the time she heard him climbing up the rope, the only signs left of her tears were the rosey cheeks and puffy eyes. But it was dark, maybe he wouldn't notice. She turned from the makeshift window she was staring out of, over towards where Harry emerged into the treehouse. Arms were wrapped around her body, her hair a tangled mess framing her face.

"I hope you were quieter than that in the arena."

"Didn't want to scare you." He told her. Ginny knew, probably better than anyone, that he was extremely careful in the arena, making sure to keep quiet. The noise he made though, despite his comment, wasn't intentional, he was starting to get comfortable there and knowing he was going to see Ginny and not spy on someone made him slightly careless.

"Plus they didn't have ropes conveniently hanging in my arena."

He climbed into the treehouse fully, discovering that the ceiling was much too low. He sat down across from her, letting his legs stretch forward.

He frowned, now that he had a good look at Ginny, "How are you?"

She knew. She'd watched Harry's games just as intently as she'd watched all of her brother's, and with just the same emotions.

"Of course, if they did, you wouldn't want to use them anyway. Probably booby-trapped to explode." The gamemakers often placed little booby traps, or cause natural disasters to happen, when the games got "boring" (i.e., people weren't dying enough). An exploding rope was probably a bit too uncreative for them, but Ginny wouldn't have trusted one if she'd seen it.

Ginny unfolded her arms as Harry sat down, placing her palms against the ground to turn her seated body more away from the window. She leaned back against the wall, and pulled her knees up to her chest, before wrapping her arms back around herself.

"I've been better." A shrug of her shoulders was offered as she lowered her head to set her chin on her knees, fixing big brown eyes on Harry. "On the bright side, I've been worse, too. ...how old did they make you for this world?"

"Never heard of that." Harry grumbled to himself, flashing back briefly to his games before shaking himself out of that train of thought.

He eyed Ginny, watching as she retreated into herself and frowned. She seemed so reserved and just plain sad but at least she didn't lie to him. In his experience, lying about how you felt never helped but he wouldn't have blamed her if she did. "Sixteen." He told her, "Sixteen and very confused but no extremes."

He paused, trying to find something right to say, or something to lighten the mood. "You were cute at six"

"Sixteen..." Ginny fell quiet, letting that thought simmer in her mind. Sixteen would've been better.

The quiet falling over them was soothing, at least to Ginny. She was glad just to have him here. He didn't even need to say anything. But his comment forced a bit of a smile out of her, though it was barely there. "I was still innocent then. Well...as much as I could be. I'd only lost mum back then, and I didn't really understand the concept of everything going on around me. Not the way I do now."

Ginny huffed a breath through flaring nostrils, a hand lifting to push stray locks of red from her face.

"What purpose was all that? Making us all kids again, just to make us relive those memories? It makes me wonder if we'll remember all this when we go home..."

Harry considered, for a brief second, telling her that she was just as cute now as she was at six but decided against it. It was not only inappropriate but ill-timed. That moment, it seemed, had passed. He let his hand fall to the back of his neck, massaging out the stress that had manifested in him after all the commotion of the last few days.

"It gets better." He told her, and it did. The trauma never truly left but Harry had been at a point in his life, before he was taken, to move on, to get ready for whatever their hellish world's future had in store for him. "Either that or you get better at pretending it does."

He moved over to her side, finding it slightly more cramped but hopefully it made her feel more supported. "They won't do this again Ginny, this little experiment's over now. As for if we remember? I don't know but I don't think there's really any point on dwelling on that now."

She wasn't sure if she could believe Harry. Even though he came from a later time. Even though he'd lived the post-games life much longer than she did, or than she cared to. She couldn't see it getting better. She stayed quiet and still, up until the point where he'd moved up beside her. Ginny shifted, and leaned herself up against him, her head tilting to rest against his shoulders. It was cramped, but he was right; it was, at least a bit, comforting.

"I can't help but dwell on it. I can't help but dwell on a lot of things. I look around, and I see everyone else enjoying their time here. And I'm just ... grumpy. All the time. I've barely even talked with anyone besides you; not even Dora or Pansy. I haven't talked to either of the Ginny's since we ended up here." She heaved a sigh. "Part of me just wants to go home already. I know this place is better. It's safer. There's more fun to be had, but ..." Her words cut off, and she fell quiet agian, not even sure where she was going with her rant.

Harry let his arm wrap around her but didn't pull her any closer. He just let it rest there to let her know that he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. "Racing thoughts, bad memories- that's expected Ginny. You're only human. If I was taken from the first few days, hell, the first few years, after my games, I would be in the same position. You're holding up a lot better than the rest of us would."

He was tired and he hadn't realized it before but he was. Harry wasn't particularly good at all these emotional situations, something he must have learned from Ron, and although he had the practice now, it still wore him out. It wasn't as uncomfortable now but it was still every much as difficult as it had been when he first comforted someone.

"...you think so?" Ginny had honestly thought she was being ridiculous. That she was falling apart at the seams. The concept that she was handling this better than most would came as a surprise to her. With each passing day, she felt more and more like a scared little girl.

Ginny tilted her head and looked up at Harry, letting her body relax against him and in his arm. Her arms loosed from around her legs, hands sliding up and down along her calves.

"You look tired."

"Better than I would." Harry said with a half shrug, careful not to joggle her as she rested her head on his shoulder. He couldn't even imagine what it would have been like for him after the games. Harry was in a very bad place back then that had only recently begun to get better.

"I usually do."

"...thank you, Harry. That ... actually helps a lot." Ginny managed to push a smile forward. Her head tilted again, pulling her gaze from him and staring off down towards the ground.

She nodded her head a little at his response. "I know that feeling. I haven't been sleeping well, really, either. Nightmares. Doesn't help that I've been holding up in my room alone. I was thinking about sleeping out here tonight. Now that we're not kids anymore, I imagine we'll be flipping soon. Might be our last night in this world..."

Harry smiled back at her feeling hopeful that he may have actually done something for her. He knew that he couldn't fix the world's problems but sometimes he really wished he could. If only to see the people he loved happy.

Harry bit his lip, "Don't you have a curfew?" He reminded her gently. "Maybe you can talk to your scientist about a roommate."

"I do. But, I'm already out here. I've barely even seen Dame Zeta, anyway. I doubt she'll even notice." She paused, contemplating the idea of a roommate. "I don't know. Maybe. I think I'll just try to tough it out, for now."

Legs unbent at the knees, stretching out along the ground in front of her slowly. She brought her hands up to her thighs and ran them down along her legs, smoothing the fabric of denim jeans. "Would you...stay here with me tonight?"

"Are you still jumpy?" He asked before backtracking, "I mean- you don't have to answer that if you don't want to." He told her quickly, not wanting to remind her of any of her weaknesses. Harry himself was still jumpy at times but it had been a long while since his games.

Harry let his legs stretch out next to hers before looking at her for a long moment. "Yeah, I'll stay, but I don't want you getting in trouble."
