FLAGSTONES

MEDIEVAL & HIGH FANTASY RESOURCES

FLAGSTONES is a resource community for medieval and high-fantasy roleplayers.

Posts here can more or less have anything to do with roleplay within the medieval and medieval fantasy genres so long as they follow a few simple guidelines. I'd like this to be an active resource for those of us more interested in historical roleplay whether it is reality based, fantasy, fandom, or modeled after the style of Dungeons & Dragons.

1. Be polite. This is most important of all because we're here to have fun and to do that we need to all get along. Please treat others as you would like to be treated even if their views do not coincide with your own.

2. Ads, as well as PSL and storyline requests may be posted here so long as they fit within the medieval or medieval fantasy guidelines. No modern day city or town, no celeb games, no Victorian or steampunk games. Fandom games are fine so long as they take place within the medieval era, and panfandoms are alright so long as the are also set within the medieval fantasy genre and only contain those elements. There are plenty of ad communities for other kinds of games, so if your ad doesn't meet these criteria please don't post them here.

3. Ads should not contain large graphics unless they are under a cut. Please feel free to leave a link to your game and a brief description with information, but if you have large graphics please make sure they are under a cut-tag to save those of us with slow connections the long loading time.

4. Resources, icons, background patterns etc. are all welcome here so long as they meet the medieval and fantasy criteria and are properly credited to their original creators. If you're not sure how to credit a resource, providing a link to the original post or citing the article or book you found the information in will suffice.

5. Please try and use tags. If a tag has already been used for something please try and use that same tag, however if you are posting something and you feel none of the tags already used fit please just tag the entry as 'other' and a moderator will attempt to give it a more appropriate tag as soon as possible.

Other than that let's all have fun!

So, this is what I propose.

There are probably a lot of us lingering around IJ who are into the medieval fantasy genre but given the popularity of modern day, reality based pb games, and celeb, and fandom games we tend to get pushed to the side. There's no great place for us to share resources or plot or advertise games that are just in that genre. Sure [info]fantasy_rpgs exists but most of what I've seen from that community are Harry Potter ads.

Most medieval fantasy games that I've seen manage to start off with a handful of interested people but once first ads are done the games tend to die. I think a lot of that is due to not having a central meeting point. So, I've made this community in the hopes that maybe we can redirect some of that focus here. People interested in games within this genre can use it to look for co-mods, storylines for communities and psls, and post game advertisements. I think it should be more than just an ad community though and that it can be used to discuss potential game plots and gauge interest, share resources such as period icons, medieval looking backgrounds, mini-icons and things like that.

We can talk about what rules we want in place as far as posting goes (right now membership is open and posting is unmoderated so anything can come through). I think that as far as advertising goes, we should make things more or less text-based, more of what you see on pbads with a link and a brief description of what you're looking for. This is mostly to cut down on loading time, however if someone has a larger ad they can always put it behind a cut. I also think we should tag our entries for content to make things easier to browse for.

In essence I guess what I'm thinking is that we make this a community structured somewhat like [info]rp_tutorials but focus it on this genre in order to put players more in touch with one another and help this genre become more popular.

I'm hoping others will have some thoughts on this and will be able and interested to contribute.
