Dennis stood his ground resolutely. "Well, thank you for your honesty," he said, feeling a lot of the anger drain from him. "For the record I'm not looking to settle down with anyone at the moment either," he lied, deciding that it would be pointless to add that while he was looking for someone, it definitely wouldn't be with a drunken one night stand.
The ghost of a smile touched his lips as the man began ticking points off his fingers. "You make a couple of good points, and while I seem to remember that I was quite into it at the time it still was a bit..." He looked at Rolf for inspiration. "A bit dubious let's say, and the number was very nice but really if you weren't going to reply you probably could have just left nothing. I'm a big boy, I can get over these things. Still, I appreciate the sentiment if not the delivery." He sighed again and nodded. "You weren't that much of a jerk, and sorry for being pissy with you."
Dennis felt any feelings of warmth suddenly freeze at the mention of Paden. He tried to stop the pain pinch his face even as spears of ice seemed to impale his chest. "I... You... I told you about my ex," he asked in a would-be-calm voice. "Wow, I must've been even more paralytic than I thought if I mentioned that. Alright then," he turned to go back out in the back room in case he embarrassed himself by crying, before the word amends sunk into his brain. "Good luck with the whole alcoholics anonymous thing. Maybe try not to get shit faced and pick up random strangers in bars if you're on the programme," he said over his shoulder, before opening the door and going to lean against the bench with his head in Bast's fur.
