Journal: Lavender Brown
[Warded to Susan]

Susan, Susan, Susan. I need to pick the brains of one of my favourite Aurors.

So, Crup fighting in London. You probably know that I had a letter from Rolf Scamander about it, so I've followed that up by collecting evidence from him and Luna Lovegood. So far, the injuries they recorded are consistent with the sort of things I saw when my squad raided that Crup fighting ring in Belfast.

Which means that so far I've got injuries, dates when the Crups have been found, and locations.

So now I need your help. What are you thinking?

Lavender, Lavender, Lavender. I was actually just about to write you an interdepartmental memo, so this is eerily good timing.

How widespread is the issue? I think it's definitely something to be worried about. Animal fighting is cruel and unnecessary and tends to be practiced by 'those of unconscionable and improper views' so I think we definitely need to be proactive with this.

I'm thinking we maybe go and canvass the areas around where the Crups were handed in, and see if we can't bring enough to take to the brass. Either of us bringing things alone will probably earn us a pat on a head but both of us together should get people in on the deal. Should I bring Haz and Nev in on it too? All three of us have a certain level of scope for independent investigations?

I haven't put everything onto a map yet, but I think we're looking at central London. All the locations I've been given seem to have a WC postcode. I wouldn't be surprised if this was some sort of Knockturn remnant.

People who have views like this are people who deserve some really nasty hexes. Luckily, I know a few. (What can I say? I have an affinity for canines.)

Sounds like a plan. Bring in whoever you want. I wouldn't consider myself much of an investigator, so any help is appreciated.

Oh man, the dears over in Rejuvenation would spit bricks if it were. But that makes sense. Just because you send everyone packing and revamp the place doesn't necessarily mean that all the bad eggs go away does it?

I love the way you think Lavender Brown, you are a delight. But yes definitely some discreet and lawful wounding by way of spells seems to be the way I'd go too.

Excellent, I'll cc Harry and Neville in shall I? Can you think of anyone else we want in on the action?

Yeah, a lick of paint doesn't get rid of problems, it just covers them. And this usually happens, I think. Disable the ring and it's just lay low for a while before it pops its ugly head back up.

Maybe just Harry and Neville? While more people on the ground would be good for canvassing, drawing too much attention to the investigation might drive this thing deeper underground.
