Harry and Ernie
Who: Ernie and Harry
What: Some healing and catching up
Where: Ernie's flat
When: 6pmish, Wednesday, 10/8
Rating: SFW probably

"I'll go see a Healer as soon as we're done questioning Mister Waddlesworth," Harry insisted, glaring at Savage even as his entire body felt like it had been run over by a herd of hippogriffs. He'd had worse injuries; there was nothing life threatening that demanded he go to St. Mungo's immediately and check himself in. Savage gave in with a sigh, and Harry carefully made his way into the interrogation room.

Several hours later, Harry had lost track by the time Waddlesworth broke down and admitted to casting the Imperious curse on his mother-in-law so she'd stop hounding him about getting a job. By the time the wimpering man had been transported to the holding cells, Harry's head was pounding as much as his body was. The little man packed a punch, and could throw a curse better than some professional duelists Harry knew. He probably should have brought backup, as Savage had already reminded him, but it was meant to be a routine visit. Why did routine visits never end up being routine?

Harry sighed, and because he didn't think his body could handle Apparating, headed to the Auror's private Floos. His first instict was to go straight home, sleep off the bumps and bruises, but Savage pinned him with a look just as he was reaching for the Floo powder.

"Remember that Healer, Potter. I'll know if you don't follow through."

Knowing better than to ignore a direct order, Harry tossed in a handful of powder and stuck his head through, body screaming in protest at being folded in half this way. "Ernie? Are you home? Is it alright if I come through? Had a bit of a run0in at work, and don't want to go to St. Mungo's if it's at all avoidable."

Ernie sighed at the tale. The war was long over, so why did people feel they could use Unforgivables? He didn't care how annoying the mother-in-law was, there were always other options. "He was a twat, you mean," he said, trying for humour. It was the best cure of all after all.

"So, it looks like some bruised ribs, general bruises, and a small concussion, all of which are easily healable. I can weave the charms here and send you home with a draught to do the rest of the work while you sleep. You'll need to stay seated for a few more minutes, but you can still talk. I promise I'll keep you entertained." He grinned then set to getting the charms woven around Harry.

"So, aside from falling victim to stray octagenarians, how is the world of Harry Potter?"

Harry breathed a sigh of relief when Ernie's diagnosis matched his own. "I know you will, you're a very entertaining bloke," Harry agreed, staying still as the charms wove around him. "Makes this whole healing thing a lot less painful."

"Oh you know. A lot of work, I feel like I've done nothing but work for the past few weeks. This time of year is usually pretty busy, for various reasons." Most of those reasons being people could be nuts. Harry had the scars to prove it. "And when I'm not working I've been spending time with Teddy, giving Andromeda a break here and there. Nothing so exciting, unfortunately." Or fortunately; Harry had had enough excitement in his teenage years that the mundane was welcome.

"What about you?"

"Teddy's a sweet kid," Ernie grinned. "He's lucky to have you after everything. And judging by today, it's probably for the best that things aren't that exciting for you, else you'd be knocking up my door every other day. I'd have to quit my job to become a professional auror-healer."

Harry looked rather interesting encompassed by a mild glow in a shade reminiscent of dark lilacs. It was the magic at work, healing some of the injuries, but it still amused Ernie after all these years. "I'm doing some research, keeping up on healing techniques the world over. Other than that, I'm like you, nothing that exciting. I like a nice, quiet life sometimes, especially after our school years. I think we had enough excitement for a lifetime, if you ask me."

"I'm lucky to have him. He's a great kid," Harry said, grinning. There were few topics of conversation that Harry enjoyed more than bragging about his godson. He had it on good authority that he was sickening with it sometimes. "You could make a good living at that I'd bet."

The dark lilac color didn't bother him, but it was always a bit uncomfortable feeling the spells at work. At least he was reasonably sure he wouldn't have to regrow any bones when Ernie was done. "Are you finding anything interesting? We've done some work with International Auror departments, sharing theories and spells, I imagine it must be something of the same with regards to Healing?"

He nodded in agreement. Excitement was very much over-rated.

Ernie grinned back. He liked to see Harry's pride in his godson - his friend deserved it and so much more. "Don't tempt me," Ernie teased about working healing aurors. "Then you'd never be rid of me and my mother-henning."

He shrugged. "A little yes, a little no. It's nice to share, especially after discoveries are officially made and credit given, but when things are still in an experimental stage, there are some healers and potioneers that would rather keep mum on it until they've gotten recognition for their ideas. It can be a little competitive, actually."

The lilac glow finally narrowed from Harry's body to the locations of the injuries, made one final 'pulse', and then they were gone. "There, that should do it. How do you feel?"

Harry gave an exaggerated wince at the mention of mother-henning. "Thanks for the warning. I get enough mother-henning from Mrs. Weasley and Andromeda." Not that he really minded the mother-henning. It was nice, and still a new enough novelty that Harry didn't resent it the way some of his friends did from their parents.

"That's an interesting thought. Cut-throat healers; who'd have thought," Harry teased, though it sounded not far off the mark from what Ernie was saying. There was some amount of competition within the DMLE, but for the most part they all just wanted to get the job done, and at least for his part Harry didn't care about name recognition. He supposed it was a bit different from actually developing new techniques and spells, though.

When the glow faded, Harry stretched all his limbs slowly, checking for any lingering pain. There was none, and he grinned at Ernie. "Good as new. Thanks. This was much less painful than a trip to St. Mungo's."
